I just got diagnosed with TMJ, but I'm still a little confused about my symptoms. It gets really exacerbated when I talk, but it's not that bad when I chew. This doesn't make sense to me - does this sound familiar to anyone?

My only theory is that talking is causing anxiety (because I fear the TMJ will get worse) that makes the TMJ worse. Any other ideas?

Thanks!

greg - hmmm. it's interesting that only talking not chewing makes your symptoms worse. for me, both cause me pain.

im guessing, but maybe talking requires different muscles than chewing. the ones associated with talking may cause you pain whereas the chewing ones dont... i really dont know, tho. maybe someone else has a better idea. :)

Yeah - as soon as I sent that post, I started wondering if the vibrations from talking can exacerbate the symptoms. I suffer primarily from a deep pressure in the head and behind the eardrums. It kinda makes sense that that would be particulartly sensitive to vibrations. Just another theory

Does this make sense or am I grabbing at straws?
