Well, last Monday, the 17th, I fell and caught myself with my right arm extended behind me. (why, we as humans, feel the need to stop our falling with our arms extended instead of falling on our cushy tushies is beyond me) I have been having throbbing and burning in my collar bone ever since. I have also had some pain in the front of my shoulder, but just a little, the collar bone is almost unbearable though. I finally went to the doctor today, I waited because I didn't want to jump the gun and go in if there was no need, and I told him about my fall and how my collar bone was hurting so bad, and he said that I could have a separated shoulder, I told him my shoulder didn't hurt that bad that the problem was in my collar bone so he ordered an x-ray of my shoulder ONLY. Go figure. Why don't doctors listen?
I read somewhere that the leading cause of collar bone fractures is falling with the arm extended backwards, just like I fell, and he wants to x-ray my shoulder and not my collar bone???
Oh well, just wanted to vent a little, it just really irks me when docs think they are so superior and all knowing.
Take care all,
Michelle

Hi Michelle- Your doctor may be okay after all.
The shoulder is made up of three bones: the scapula (shoulder blade), the humerus (upper arm bone) and the clavicle (collarbone). The tendons of four muscles form the rotator cuff. So if he wants you to have xrays of "the shoulder", I'm pretty sure the clavicle will be part of it.
