Okay, here's the deal. I can tell that I am not the healthiest person alive. I am rarely sick, but I want to assure that I am in good shape.
I do not eat a lot of fruits or vegetables. I rarely eat beef/steak. I never eat fish. That is it for the most part.
I do eat pizza, quessidillas, and various forms of chicken. Oh, and I am a huge fan of chocolate and other candies.
I drink a lot of water and soda. Sometimes, I will also have a SOBE drink....they're delicious.
Recently, my girlfriend told me that it is a miracle that I am alive since I never eat fruits and barely ever have. My theory is that if fruit flavored candy tastes better than real fruit, why bother with the real thing?
By the way, I hardly ever excersize. I am not even sure if I spelled "excersize" correctly. All I know is that my BMI is around 22. What should I do to assure that I am a healthy person? Are multi-vitamins a good idea? I want to be in good shape without giving up my love for pizza.
Please email me if you have any suggestions - [removed]
THANKS!!!

here's my (non-professional) advice:
fruit and vegetables are really important because they contain fiber, which is important in regulating cholesterol, preventing colon caner, etc.
your diet seems low in fiber, so i'd make a conscious effort to find fruits and veggies you like (juice doesn't count here) and include them more often.
also, it's a good idea to drink more water, and cut back some on soda.

My guess is that your young, and thats why your healthy. Bad habits have a way of catching up with you at some point.

I would concur. Its kinda of weird how the "rules" of good health tend to not apply to younger people. Of course this is not always the case, but then again thats why they are the "rules" People probably tend not to worry about their health until they notice a problem.

Your BMI is a bit high. Try walking for 10 minutes a day to start. As far as foods, you can still have pizza, just vary the way you have it. Try a veggie pizza with light sauce. Chicken and pineapple is good on pizza with alfredo sauce. There are many ways to be able to still eat the foods you love while being kind to your body. I used to take a lot of naps during the day, but when I switched from Mountain Dew to Diet Mountain Dew, my energy level increased drasticly. It was quite a surprise. Candy is ok in limited quanities. Try sugar free types. You can find a great selection near the pharmacy in a grocery store. Don't be like me. I waited too long to start taking care of myself. I'm only 23 and have issues already that relate to not maintaining my body. Listen to your girlfriend. She has a point. Work together to find a healthier, but not neccessarily boring, lifestyle. Good luck. It's great that you are mature enough to take responsibility for yourself.

I am 20 years old, going to be 21 soon, so I am not too young. I posted the question to see what I can do before it would be too late. Thanks to everybody for your suggestions!

My mistake. I though 22 was pretty high for our age group. I need to review my charts...:)

BTW, I found some tv dinners called Select Ones that are really cheap and they average about 280 calories and 7 grams of fat each. Calorie wise, it's the equivalant of a Coke and not too much fat. Only 3.5 grams are saturated. They cost about 2 bucks at Walmart.

Fruits and vegetables also supply your body with necessary nutrients, such as vitamins and minerals. Fruit flavored candy has nothing in common with fruit. The foods you seem to enjoy are very processed and refined, they can wreak havoc on your body. Just because right now you may feel okay doesn't mean that in a few years you will not have chronic health problems. In order to be healthy you shouldn't drink any kind of soda, and I would never suggest or recommend eating processed foods such as frozen dinners  . In order to be healthy you need to eat a well balanced diet(no processed or refined foods) , take daily vitamins and supplements, drink plently of water, and exercise.
