Well i had to have a 32 teeth extraction and dentures and had opted to use the pill sedation method.I was given 3 pills one for night before, one to take an hour before and one to bring with me.I had assumed the one for the night before was for anxiety so i didnt take it-big mistake .By the time we get to dentist the one i took hour before has me high but not enough to let anyone meddle with my mouth(i have severe phobia). So i take the second pill and wait ,still nothing.at this point the dentist is rdy to cancel and reschedule but i say no let me try the third pill(I had been wanting this work done really bad for really long time)So at 1 pm i take the third pill and am rescheduled for surgery at 2.Now for the scary part-@ pm comes around and im stoned and asleep in the chair, the dentist manages to pull 2 teeth before i start feeling everything. All i could do is brace myself and moan ...etc for the entire procedure. He gave me shots to numb m,y mouth but i was still in pain. Then we get to the last tooth and im thinking"piece of cake"not!it was either infected or lodged in very good casue it took 30 min to get out and hurt like hell.

Today I have my dentures in my mouth and other than a bit of bleeding havent really had any problems.I am really thankfull this is over with and i can finally think about smiling again.

My warning to people using pill sedation-make sure you follow the docs instructions to the tee-if not you will have problems. Also as in my case-if you have a high tolerance for drugs compared to normal people you may want to opt for iv sedation instead.

Lastly to ease anyones mind cause i know this sounds scary to people with a phobia-Ive been scared as hell of the dentist all my life wich is why i opted fpor the sedation with pill etc-It didnt work right for me and yes i was in pain but it worked out in the end its over with now im at home safe,a bit sore and checking ou8t my new smile in the mirror

I just posted a related story, I am going to be having all of mine extracted..with PILL SEDATION, I am absolutely terrified, but excited for I will be able to smile again, and be relatively pain free I am hoping. I am so glad to hear a "it worked" story, you have no idea..strike that YOU DO.. anyways, if there are any other words of encouragement or good results, glad you did it...please post on my thread up there...I am freaking out, and the appointment hasnt even been made yet...
Thanks Dove

Dove just be sure to follow your dentists instructions to the tee on taking the pills and you should be fine.Even tho i felt most of mine it was because i took the pills wrong and also the dentist told me afterwards that every tooth or "nub"i had left in my mouth was abcesses,so im sure that contributed to it.

Anyways all initial fears aside -once its done youll be glad you did it.i still have the healing process ahead of me so it kind of sucks ie-cant smoke etc.but the look on my 2 yr olds face when i smiled and he saw teeth was entirely worth it(funniest thing i ever saw).Im looking forward to going back to work next week and actually being able to smile without being concious about it.I'm 30 years old and had bad teeth for the past 4 years due to my phobia about going to the dentist.IT was at the point when my wife could get me to go out to like a restaurant etc shed have to order for me because i didnt want to speak.Im sure anyone here with bad teeth gets the point without me writing a mile of examples. The point im trying to make is Dove-dont be scared itll be over before you know it and youlll have a beautiful smile again-that little bit of fear is definetly a wasted emotion

I must say I agree entirely with B.Bach on this one. I had my uppers removed two days ago under IV sedation not the pill, and although I too had two abcesses that caused a few problems, I can honestly say it was a breeze and I am thrilled it's all over! The pain now is so worth it bearing in mind the excrucitating pain that abcesses can cause, and the pain is nothing like that now anyway! I am getting my false teeth replaced soon coz I am not happy with them, (they look realistic but are way too big and too straight at the front) but that asside, I even feel loads better! I was having really bad IBS from not chewing my food properly. Now I am on liquids only for a while and my stomach has improved dramatically in just two days, and it can only get even better from now on! I can say hand on heart I would do it all over again. I had a phobia for 14yrs and finally said to myself enough is enough! I wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy so why wish it on myself?
Please hang in there, and it'll be over in no time. You be so delighted that you did it, and all the major benefits will soon become apparent :)
Luv n hugs
