I have recently vistited an allergy doctor, and he suggested I try irragation of my nostrils, it might help you. Mix 1/4 tsp of bakingsoda with 1/4 tsp of salt with 8 oz. of warm water. Mix up and place in a bowl that is going to allow you to get your nose in without your face getting wet. so you close one nostril and snort up the water like you are taking a breath with your nose. The mixture should come out into your throat. Now at this point you can swallow it, as it will not harm you, or spit it out. I spit it out as I find the taste disgusting. I've only tried it once, that was this morning but all day I have been breathing easy. The side affect I have noticed so far is that sometimes my nose will drip. It is only once in a while so its no big deal. I actually believe it to be when I breath in something im allergic to, because sitting inside it doesnt happen. But being exposed to dust it will. Hope this helps.

Also, you snort a few times threw one nostril and then switch it up, so maybe snort for a few seconds, spit out/swallow, then change and repeat. Also finish all 8 oz of the mixture in one sitting. If you can't the first time you will have something to work up to.

Start with 2 times a day, then as you progress and you find your nose to stay clear move to once a day, or often enough to keep the nose clear. I have found that for the first 10 or so minutes after doing the procedure my nose will be dripping alot, it may be the mixure running out, just blow the nose a few good times and it should be done. Report your progress. Cya

Search on the internet for a Nasal irrigator. A plastic syringe 60CC that is great for irrigation. I use it twice a day with noniodized (1/2 tsp) sea salt and baking (1/4tsp) soda with 2 cups of warm water. I no longer have to take any allergy drugs. Also, my food allergies are gone!

thanks for the tips. I actually tried this before but without baking soda, just water and salt. and I only did it like a couple of times and then I stoped. I will try it with baking soda this time. thanks

I haven't been able to breathe through my nose for months. I'm seeing an allergist next week, but my Primary doc put me on Clarinex (the prescription form of Claritin) and Flonase about seven weeks ago. That wasn't working that well and seem to get even worse. Yesterday I went to Walgreens and bought their generic brand of Claritin WITH decongestant. It's called Wal-itin D. This stuff is awesome. Within an hour and a half I could breathe. That one pill is still working today. It's like I never had a problem. You can buy the pills in smaller packs to try them out. Ask your pharmacist about it. I've also been coughing less today.

Wait a sec!!! I remember reading some trivia some time ago and for some reason it stuck in my mind: something about how most people breath through one nostril at a time and it changes back and forth throughout the day. Of course, during the switchover, it goes to both for a while. I don't think this is an issue. I have the same thing happen to me all the time!! Ever since I read that years ago, I have noticed how mine switch...

I have frequently noticed this while trying to sleep. If I sleep on my side, whichever nostril is down will be congested, ie: sleep on the right side and the right nostril is congested and vice-versa.

Other than spray decongestants containing .05% oxymetazaline HCI, I have never found anything else that helps. Allergist found moderate Dust allergy and zero pet dander, mold, mildew, pollen or anything else. My allergy seems to be chemical and the worse triggers are the daily newspaper and CA adhesives (superglue) but I frequently get attacks for no reason!? that I can find.
