Hi, I'm a 27 year old female and for the past 2 years have had on and off pain in my lower right side right under the ribcage. At the age 18, I had a gall stone pass right through me and then up until the last two years, I didn't have any reoccurance with the stones. I have had 2 ultrasounds done and not one of them showed gallstones or anything in the gallbladder. My doctor said he thinks it could be the functioning of the gallbladder, or lack thereof. It's a sharp throbbing pain that comes and goes either before eating, during, or after, sometimes makes me nausious, and I sometimes get this gurgling feeling in that same area when it hurts. Maybe it's an ulcer? Anyway, my doctor is scheduling an upper endoscopy for me later this next week to find out what it could be. I also have lower back pain, just soreness and some fatigue. Any other ideas or does this sound like it could really be my gall bladder? Doc says if it is, he will want to remove it immediately...Also, my mother and her mother had theirs out at a very early age...How possible is it to be hereditary? Thanks in advance for any info and advice!

Sounds like the gallbladder to me. I've had mine out and ahhhh. Get rid of that sucker.

Ultrasounds are NOT foolproof. Sometimes they do not see the whole story so base your decision on your symptoms too.

Ah, I noticed your name and you have a child? My last kid KILLED my gallbladder. (Thats why I had the surgery) Now that is very common!

 When I was pg, I had those very same symptoms, and then they got REALLY BAD! I couldn't keep anything down and the only thing that would help (and still does if I get a small attack) is lying on a heating pad until the pain went away. One day I was driving and almost passed out from the pain. Once I could see straight, I went to the ER and was admitted. They couldn't take it out b/c I was at the point where I was too far along, but not far enough. After Isaiah was born, I had ANOTHER attack like that and ended up in the ER again. There was a girl in there who HAD hers out and was having the same problems b/c of stones forming in her bile ducts. I opted not to have it removed that day, and I make sure there's a heating pad here. I've only had 2 minor ones since the last one and I'm glad I didn't have the surgery. As far as heredity goes, I think it is genetic. My grandma had the SAME problems and hers was removed. Try the heating pad before you go yanking stuff out of your body. If it is necessary, at least you will have tried different things first. Good Luck and God Bless!

Thank you so much for replying...I had the ultrasound and it showed nothing, which I figured. So, the doc is scheduling me for a HIDA scan this week...just spectacular! I tried to read up a bit on this procedure, not sure if this will show anything either. I feel like a human lab test! I pray this will test will find something so I don't have to have the endoscopy...not thrilled about having a scope down my throat. I'm to the point where I don't have much of an appetite due to the sick feeling I get and the pain before and after meals. When I was pregnant it didn't hurt and it still didn't hurt until about the time my daughter turned 2. I don't think it helps that my life has been an emotional roller coaster for the past 2 years either!
