View Full Version : OS messed up my jaw 8 yrs ago, still can't wear my dentures

And I am only 36 now. The oral surgeon that did my surgery, he pulled 26 teeth at once, decided to grind down my back jaw bones on both sides in back and he flattened them out. Now I have absolutely no ridge, whatsoever, it's perfectly flat and nothing there for my dentures to "grab on to". Pretty bad, I used to be attractive, and he had to go and do that to me. I can't wear my dentures without half a tube of glue, and trying to eat with them is impossible.
I have had 3 different pairs made by 3 different people and then I found out it wasn't the teeth, it was my mouth. I have been walking around toothless since I was 28 as an embarrassment to my poor children and family.
Just thought I would tell you my story.

Michelle,

Have you talked with anyone about dental implants either to replace all of your teeth or at least to stabilize your dentures? I wear conventional dentures and feel fortunate that I do not need adhesive but I do chat with some others on another resource that have had to have implants installed to stablize their lower denture in particular. They seem pleased with the results. They were also long time denture wearers and lost bone mass over time.
I feel badly for you and wish you the best in getting this situation resolved.

Hi Michelle,

Sorry to hear about your condition. While implants are an option they might not work for your situation without bone grafting. You may not have enough bone to properly anchor an implant. If bone grafting is done to build up bone for implants I don't see why you couldn't have bone grafting done to build up a ridge so that you can at least wear normal dentures again. Call a dentist or oral surgeon's office and ask about it. Good luck!

Implants will help. Only go to a prosthodontist. Search IMPLANTS on this board.

Yes, yes yes I cannot stress emough to find a Prosthodontist. Mine specializes in cases Doctor's say they cannot touch or fix. Actually these are their favorite cases as they love to prove them wrong. They aren't cheep but the results are out of this world!!!!!!

I too was turned away by many Dentists who told me I was a hopeless case. I would love to show you my before and after's but do not know how to post the link to my photo. If you want to see it e-mail me at [ please carefully review the posting rules - no emails ]
