Hi everyone,
It all started in January 2003. The acid reflux I have had for 6 years had moved into my stomach, I never new how uncomfortable heartburn could be. I saw a doc and he prescribed protonix. After a months dose I felt a bit better so I decided to end it there rather then spend $170.00 for another month. 3 days later I awoke sick with slight fever, chills, dizziness, frequent urination, nausea and migraine. I felt better after 2 days, A week later the same. Another week and again the same except this time the dizziness would not leave and brought some new friends like flushing, hot and cold sensation and tingling. Every once in awhile the dizzies would cause a heavy feeling in my shoulders. This all started in late June and has been with me since except the dizzies have turned to a constant lightheadedness and a spaced out feeling has been present since the start. The acid reflux is still here and sometimes heartburn. I have been using OTC Zantac because I am a little scared of the Protonix.
Does anyone think there could be a link between my acid reflux/dizziness/Protonix? Other then my 24/7 lightheadedness/spaciness I have a full feeling in my ears, nose and eyes. My eyes don’t seem to react as quickly as normal they don’t focus right and vision is blurred in mornings and after showers. My nose feels stuffed but dry, my E-tubes for my ears feel stuffed. I have a hard time concentrating. I had head and neck aches for 2 months but have not had them for over a month. I was restricted to the indoors during the summer because the heat intensified my lightheadedness.
I have had the following test; CBC, catscan, h.pylori, diabetes, thyroid panel and was told by a dentist that I had an impacted wisdom tooth on lower jaw and 2 cavities in rear molars on upper jaw. I have not had any problems with any of these teeth.
Other problems I have dealt with: about 10 years ago I had swollen lymph nodes in my groin area. I have felt fatigued as long as I can remember, but push myself to get more done than my co-workers. My face feels hot quite often; I look as though I am blushing. I have had RLS for about 10 years; the constant need to move or stretch my feet and legs is very uncomfortable. I have had anxiety and depression for quite some time. I have had problems with my digestive system for 15 years. I would get these viruses 4 or 5 times a year where all the bones in my body would ache and would feel a little dizzy and slightly feverish.
I was diagnosed with rhinitis and given a shot of cortisone. I was diagnosed with ETD and given prednisone, zyrtec and nasonix. I was diagnosed with anxiety and given paxil. I have been on paxil for 3 months and the only symptom to lessen or disappear has been the headaches. The savings I have had for the past 10 years is gone all to docs who could not figure this out nor cared to. If anyone has any ideas what the **** is going on with me please give me an idea, I’m lost and broke. I am a 34 year old male, 5'9", 170. I don’t drink or do any drugs other then tobacco. I smoked for 12 years, quit and started dipping 6 years ago about the time my acid reflux started.
Any help would be appreciated even if you could tell me what you would do if you were in my shoes, no job, no insurance.

Thank You Very Much,

Derek

Derek,

I am so sorry you have to feel so bad. It's not a road any of want to travel.

A few things would be helpful before making suggestions. Could you have had a blood transfusion or other blood products sometime before 1995? If not, have you donated blood after 1995? Since you mentioned drugs, could you have had used even on one occasion? There are so many viral diseases and sources, and this sounds like a virus is at least playing a part.

I smoked pot 3 times and I have had several beers in my life. I have never given or recieved blood. I have thought virus but they would have seen that in my blood count, I hope. I do spend alot of time outdoors in the swamps of SC and have been bitten by every bug that has biters and quite a few snakes and lizards. I have thought lyme to but never had a bullseye or joint pain.

I probally shouldnt have told every problem I ever had, I just did not want to leave anything out incase someone was familier with it. What I feel at this moment is lightheadedness and I am spaced out, I kinda feel like I did when I smoked pot. I cant concentrate and my eyes are wack.

It is not all all unusual to show a negative lyme disease when in fact is is positive. There are also a fair number of people with it that never had the bull's eye.

Do you qualify for some sort of state assistance in the health care department?

Try to improve you diet. You may have low blood sugar. This is often overlooked since about the only time low sugar is a concern to the doctor is in diabetics. Low blood pressure and low blood sugars can cause a lot of dizziness and fatigue.

I believe the thyroid malfunctioning makes it harder for the body to keep body temperature stable. For years I could not tolerate neither heat or cold.

There are so many things that can cause many of the same symptoms, it is difficult for the doctors to trace it down. Also, many things are borderline and do not manifest themselves beyond vague symptoms for quite some time. I have had hepatitis C since a blood transfusion in 1967 but only found out by accident this past summer. That is most likely what has triggered the fibromyalgia and fatigue all these years. And yes, all my blood tests have been normal and are still normal.

Leave the tobacco alone; it antagonizes heartburn.

You sound like me. About 3 years ago, I took some antibiotcs for a sore throat(I never had taken anti's since I was a kid). Within a week I had a nasty rash on my neck and massive heartburn. The rash went away, but the heartburn lasted for a year plus. Along with the heartburn came a host of other ailments like fatigue, lightheadedness, tingling, numbness, and allergies. I have not figured this crap out other than it all started with the heartburn. I was a perfectly healthy 28 year old guy at the time. I am so friggin frustrated how much I am disabled by these symptoms. If you ever find anything that helps, please let me know. The brain fog/lightheadedness is the worse. You feel like an idiot and have no motivation. I wish you the best.

This is so bizzare. I chose to read some of your other threads(bothdrops) after you posted in my light headed dizzy thread. I never posted my indigestion problem as one of my symptoms. I feel tyhe same as you and ny01. I have no idea what our problem could be. I also have allergies and dryness of the synus. It seems like it would take all day to round up all my symptoms. We need to find out what the problem is here. I am going in to see a neuro sergeon because of my back problems. Maybe that is causing my symptoms. I am also going to see my allergist or ENT specialist to see about getting all the tissue in my sinus removed. My buddies mother had this done years ago and it helped her alot. I am running out of ideas.

Good luck everyone.

I also have allergies and dryness of the sinus. ... back problems. Maybe that is causing my symptoms.

What type of employment do you have? Painters are susceptible to a chemical in paint, 2-butoxythanol. It's used in a lot of cleaning and degreaser products and gulf war vets of 90-91 were exposed to it as well as to diethylene glycol monobutyl ether. You should check these chemicals on the internet; they cause a lot of the symptoms you've been mentioning.

Having sinus tissue removed sounds really radical; I hope you didn't
