I had protected sex and unprotected oral with a girl that is supposedly infected with HIV about 10 weeks ago and have recently (within the last week or so) Had symptoms such as swollen nodes in back and neck, loss of appetite and fatigue. I am very stressed and depressed over it and am thinking that this one night could have really ruined my life. I am very scared and am going to the clinic today later in the morning. I have read that ARS occur 2-4 weeks after exposure (6 weeks max) and it has been 10 or more. should I be as worried as I am?

Go to www.stdtest.org then click std basics--->the std chart you will find reassuring information there especially on HIV. Your symptoms can be a number of things....from strep throat to mono. Remember that other diseases not just STDs can be spread by oral sex. You should always use a condom or even a plastic sheeting. Its your body and you only get one. No one will care as much about your body as you. I made a huge mistake myself. Please do not worry as its pointless now. All you can do is get tested at 3 months with ELISA which will test for your antibodies. Then repeat it at 6 months. On average most people show antibodies within 4 to 6 weeks or 46 days. You are past that. Since you are close to the 14 week period or 3 month period i would get tested then. In the meantime take care of yourself, and I do think you have nothing to worry about in terms of HIV here....since looking at this std chart one can see there has been NONE in terms of HIV transmission via oral sex on a female to the one that performs the oral sex. However there has been a few cases with a male. Goodluck.

thank you for the helpful website and the reasurrance that I am not positive. I Went to the doctor today and discussed the symptoms I have been having and I found Out that I have a small ear infection and got placed on antibiodics and he told me to complete the prescription and if my nodes dont go down then to come back in. Hopefully they go away and I feel a little better. I Plan on getting tested when the three month mark comes around. Thanks again and bless you.
