So all, I was told today that although my ENG was within normal limits, I have delayed compensation due to Lab...I also have an element of BPPV. The ENT was brilliant I must say and explained he sees a lot of people like me who have not compensated after the initial injury...So he has referred me for VRT and has also advised me to have grommets put in my ears as the Lab has created some eustacian/pressure problems. May well do that.
He said the dizziness getting worse with colds was def inner ear as was flying experience - he said flying with an inner ear problem is like kicking a broken leg!!! He ruled out brain, neck, TMJ.
I am pleased. Finally someone knows what's wrong (and he is renound for dizziness - asked to see him!) and I am not going mad! And something is being done to make me better! Thanks to everyone for their support in the past and in the future xxx

Hi Em,
I am happy you finally got a diagnosis. It will really help with your anxiety. Can you tell me what grommets are and how they might help you? How was the ENT able to tell u you had BPPV? Did he say it was normal with delayed compensation to have full ears. My ears are always so full, they are driving me crazy! They do get worse with colds and it seems I get them so often.
Take good care of yourself and let us know if the VRT works and what you find out.

Hi Emma,
I am soooooo pleased that they acknowledged YES these crazy weird symptoms are all part of this inner ear problem. i have to say that our symptoms are soooooooo similiar i was not all surprised by your diagnosis especially since we both had Lab's that kicked this off.:dizzy:
Your texts have been such a comfort - these symptoms are so odd you really think is this possible?
:blob_fire:
I pray that these VRT exercises are the key and you are like me............we are sooooooo young why have we failed to compensate........its weird........but I think its just a question of time.

Doesn't it feel good to find out something! It's amazing how much better we can feel when we get some help from our doctors that we feel is on the right path to recovery! Hope it goes well and you see results soon!!

Thanks so much for your replies. Really appreciate them.
Lib - symptoms - unbalanced for 14 mths, started gradually, drunk feeling, dizzy with ead movements esp looking up, bouncing after flight, fluid in ears, full ears sometimes, slight tinnitus, feeling surreal anmd drunk 24/7. You will see my symptoms listed on a topic titled SYMPTOMS somewhere...
Sarah - grommets equalise pressure in ear - help to drain fluid, will help when have colds etc - will hopefully stop dizziness being so bad wen have colds. They use them for Eustacian Tube Dysfunction also.
ENT did Dix-Hallpike maneouver but had no nystagmus but did experience vertigo. He said wouldnt do Epley as no nystagmus but thought I had v slight BPPV on top of damage.
He is an ENT but specialist in dizziness - renound in this part of England.
Thanks again for replies xxx

Great news, I really hope the VRT works for you. I started off well but now feel worse than ever! I am beginning to wonder how long this compenstation process is actually going to take especially as some of us are around the same age and should be fighting this off by now. Keeping everything crossed for you.

Glad you are finally getting some answers. Sounds sort of similar to my diagnosis. Hopefully this will all be old news for us one day!

I need help. I have been sick for about a year. I have a terrible ear ache, nausea, shakes, and a sore throat. The problem seems to be strictly from my neck up. I have a constnst head ache and fever. My doctor has tested me for mostly everything. All my blodwork and tests have come back negative. Any suggestions?

Em, That is great news! I've been searching for almost 2 years and have just discovered a neuro otologist who specializes in vertigo/dizziness/balance, so I'm hoping I'm close. I've noticed these boards talk a lot about Eustachian Tube Dysfunction. I don't hear that term in the US; is it similar to Menieres, or do you recognize a whole different disorder in England?

I have been to ENTs in the States and they are not quick to diagnosis Menieres......but I bet many of these chronic inner ear problems are hydrops........I did a seach on ear hydrops and it expained it to a T.........causes included allergies, virus, ect.......I do believe that is probably the case with many of us. Which is not to bad, because it is not terminal.......just something we will have to learn to live with and control .
In my search there are degrees of hydrops......some don't cause the severe symtoms like menieres.........but it has to do with some fluid imbalance.

So, are hydrops, Menieres, Eustachian Tube Dysfunction and lab all the same thing? The only term I hear frequently of these here in the States is Menieres. I've also read a lot about BPPV and viral labrynthitis, but the latter is of a shorter duration, according to the literature in the US. These boards are really helpful -- it's just interesting that the disorders "seem" so different, although the symptoms appear to be the same.
