my story: unprotected vag sex with unknown status girl...

symptoms: started freaking out right away b/c my penis was sore but i think that was b/c of her masturbating me... on second day, i felt FATIGUED... this was 5 weeks ago and im STILL FATIGUED -- its a weird dizzy-fatigue feeling... i dont have fever, lymphs, sore throat or a rash...

Question 1: could ARS start 30 hours after exposure?

Question 2: does ARS related fatigue come accompanied by other more common symptoms?

Question 3: is ARS a self-limiting event or can it last for 5 weeks?

Question 4: could stress cause fatigue that lasts this long?

Thanks to all for your time

symptoms do not show up that early. i would take a deep breath and try to relax. you can not assume that everything you feel is related to HIV. there is always a risk when you have unprotected sex. there are risks to other things besides HIV like STD's, mono, hepatitis, all sorts of stuff. today is world AIDS day, i suggest we all do what we can to teach and prevent this virus from gaining anymore strength. go get tested, don't panic about anything, but get tested and always use protection. no one here can tell you if you are ok or not, only a test can. we support you and will try to help in any way we can. hope things are ok.

Question 1: could ARS start 30 hours after exposure?

No. It takes between 2 to 4 weeks for ARS symptoms to appear, however, some people NEVER have symptoms.

Question 2: does ARS related fatigue come accompanied by other more common symptoms?

Yes. THe most common symptoms is fever, but other symptoms include sore throat, swollen lymph nodes, fatigue. Generally, it is a flu-like illness, with a few symptoms, not just one. Fever is the most common.

Question 3: is ARS a self-limiting event or can it last for 5 weeks?

It is self limiting, generally lasting only a week or two.

Question 4: could stress cause fatigue that lasts this long?

Absolutley. However, there are other things NOT associated with HIV or other STDs that could cause fatigue, some of them could be serious. You should see a Dr. if it continues, and because of you POSSIBLE HIV risk, you should be tested 3 months past the encounter, just to be sure.

Hey eternal~
ARS cannot start 30 hrs after exposure...the antibodies need time to be made when they recognize the dna of the virus...and in almost every case that take about 4 weeks....the fatigue usually comes with a fever of some sort...because your body is fighting the infection is why one would feel fatigued and therefore , most likely there would be a fever...i heard ars usually lasts about a week in its acute phase and YES YES YES stress can cause awful fatigue...its happened to me.....but i would go get tested as this is the only way to know for sure...and believe me, it takes away sooo much stress...
i hope this helps, and i hope you go get tested for a peace of mind...keep me updated!

Sarrah,
thank you so much for your words of encouragment... i totally agree with you (and want this to be the case) that ARS fatigue should be accompanied by other symptoms such as fever... i mean thats the case with most viruses - you get fatigue from having your body fight with virus by fever...its almost 6 weeks since the exposure and im still experiencing the fatigue.. its not exactly the same dibilitating fatigue that you get when you have a flu that puts in bed for a couple of days, but a weird cloudy-head feeling that is hopefull caused by stress of freaking out since the start... also, i dont believe that ARS can last for 6 weeks.. most say between 1-3 weeks... im going to get tested tomorrow which would be 1 day less than 6 weeks after exposure.
HOPE its negative...i'll let you know what happens
thanks again
