View Full Version : Bad knee pain after cycling

I recently bought a bike and began riding. I loved it so much that I went out a couple times and rode for close to 2 hrs. Afterward my knees were killing me! Could this be arthritis, or something else? Did I just overdo it? I know I have osteoarthritis in my lower back, but my knees are usually fine. It never hurts to walk long distances, or even jog. It just seems to hurt when I bend my knees, such as cycling or walking up or down stairs.

My last cycling adventure was 10 days ago, and I'm still having some pain when I bend my knees (not severe, but there nonetheless). I've been sporadically taking advil and tylenol. Should I continue to take these? It seems like the pain should be gone by now.

check your seat position for and back as well as height. If you don't know how go to a really good bike store or cycling club and ask them to help you. Seat position is a very common cause of knee pain.
