I had silver fillings when I was about 12 yrs old (I'm now 27) to all four of what I think are called 1st molars. These are the molars on each quadrant of the mouth that are third from the back, counting the wisdom teeth. [#'s 3 (top right) 14 (top left) and #'s 19(bottom left) and 30(bottom right)]. I also have a very bad case of brown mottling on just these four teeth. The teeth right infront and just to the back of them have no fillings and no mottling.
The filling on #30 came off 3 years ago, tooth caved in so no root canal and was extracted. The tooth right behind it had started a very slight decay where it touched # 30 but that halted immediately after # 30 came off and hasn't progressed a nanometer.
Tooth # 14 was prepared for a root canal but needed more extensive work that couldn't be done immediately. #'s 3 and # 19 also started to act up. I've noticed that the teeth sorrounding these teeth might have started to decay in spite of intense flossing between the spaces. I therefore want #'s 3,14 & 19 extracted instead of having a root canal.

Would anyone know why only the 1st molars have been so affected? And is extraction the best thing and can it be done all at once?

I hate to say it.
Sounds like it was the dental work-mercury fillings that ruined your molars. Maybe they needed replacing sooner. I had dental work done on 9 teeth(fillings then inlays/onlays). I had no problem at all with the natural teeth before that. The fillings just made my teeth worse and they required more repair work. I was told that the work was UNNECESSARY to begin with. At the time, I had a job with really good dental insurance and I went to a dishonest doctor that went after that money. Had I had left my teeth alone things would have been fine.

I would seek a few 2nd and even 3rd opinions on how to handle your situation, because sometimes having teeth pulled is an extreme option. It could lead to the other teeth shifting and bite problems.
