i was just wondering if someone could help me out here. a few months ago i had unprotected sex with a girl. about four weeks afterwards i devoloped flu like symptoms ( tired, no energy, swollen glands around my neck, very sore and enflamed tonsilies and a white puss discharge) i went to the doctor and and had a blood test. and the result came back that i had glandular fever. it lasted for a few weeks and now i have recovered. i just happened to be surfing the net about hiv last night and read that the first stage/symptoms resemble that of glandular fever. so what i am concerned about, is hiv and glandular fever connected in any way. and if i had hiv would that blood test pick it up.

thankyou for reading my message and please respond if you have any info on this

your symptoms could be just that -- a glandular fever... i've learned that many things may be a sign of HIV and some people dont have any symptoms at all...you should get tested just in case... some say most people would show antibodies after 6 weeks... so that should be your target date

:bouncing: surfing the net can be a dangerous thing, especially i have found when it comes to looking up information on HIV. if you read through this board you will find many people with the same concearns as you. you will also find that pretty much any flu like symptom is a sypmtom of HIV so you can't go thinking that every little ache is from an HIV infection. i am not sure what kind of blood test they did, but you have to give specific consent for an HIV test. HIV will not show up in any other blood work they might do. i would get tested for HIV at the 6 week mark and again at 6 months and for now on use a condom!
