I am an 18 year old female, 5'4 and 150lbs. Every once and a while during the day I'll be doing something normal like just walking around and I'll feel really dizzy and lightheaded like I'm going to fall down or something. I also get really short breaths that freak me out. I went to the emergency room a couple months ago because I thought I had heart problems and took a bunch of tests and they said I was fine. They thought I might of had mitral valve prolapse cuz it runs in the family but it's not my heart thats bothering me. They also said it was most likely from stress which I disagree. I am on birth control and was wondering if this might have something to do with it because I believe ever since I went on it this has happened but I can't really recall. I went on it like 10 months ago I think. I don't think birth control makes you feel like that but I may be wrong. If anyone could help me it would be much appreciated!

If your heart, etc. all checked out, it does sound like it could have been a panic attack. I had one in college for no apparent reason--I was walking on campus and became lightheaded/dizzy and my breathing became quick (I thought I was going to pass out). I went to the health center and they checked things out. I've had one or two others over the years since (I'm in my 40's), and I'm not what I would consider an anxious person at all. I do get low blood sugar, but this was different.

I have the same thing, and after every kind of test and seeing a cardiologist, I found out it was pulmonary. I have Reactive Airways Disease and don't get enough air, which makes you dizzy. Maybe you should see a pulmonologist and get a pulmonary function test and see how it turns out. Good luck!

check for anemia and it also sounds like a panic attack.

You may have a blood pressure problem, if it goes suddenly low you could be getting dizzy from that. Is your heart rate also too fast? This could be a condition called postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome, which is not serious but can be debilitating. There's information on the site called "pots place", I believe, you can check it out and see if it sounds like you.
