Hello Board,
A while ago, I came in this Foot Care board, as my husband was having a very painful, and constant problem with the bottom of his feet. At times to the point where he could hardly walk, it would be so sensitive. I read a post, where someone else had a similar problem, and the remedy was to stay away from Cola soda's. My husband used to drink a lot of Cola's, and stayed away from it, and IT WORKED. No more foot pain. I was very lucky to have found, and read this particular post, and hope the person who posted that advice, reads this acknowledgment of appreciation.
Would any one in here happen to know as to why the Cola's in soda would cause foot pain??

Doesn't any body know "anything" about this? :(

I've never heard of this before. I wonder what the connection would be?

Hi,

Might it be the caffeine in colas causing an increase in blood pressure and possibly dialating blood vessels in the bottom of the feet?

This is just a wild guess on my part. I have never heard of this problem.

Thank you very much Ron for your response explanation. Of course, your opinion is a possibility. What I don't understand is how could Caffeine help relieve headache pain, yet the caffeine in Colas would cause the foot pain. I am still most curious to know what the connection of Colas and foot pain would be.
My husband is still doing very well, staying off the Colas, and that is the important thing...However, I am still hoping someone in the boards could perhaps have a more definite diagnosis to this perplexing dilemma.

Hi,

I think the case of caffeine relieving headache pain is more due to caffeine withdrawal causing a headache. Therefore, when caffeine is re-introduced, the headache goes away. However, if you have ever consumed large amounts of beverages containing caffeine, there is a threshold where caffeine will actually cause a headache. I speak from experience here.

As far as caffeine possibly causing your husband's foot pain, my theory was totally unscientific. Just a speculation. It may not be the caffeine but rather another ingredient in colas that he may be allergic to. The same way that some people get itching or hives in response to a food allergy.

Here again, this is totally speculative. My theory is usually "whatever works". If staying away from colas solves the problem, then the problem is solved. Unless your husband is extrememly fold of colas, it's no longer a problem.

Sounds like he's either allergic to the cola nut they make the drink from or maybe is diabetic, and having some neuropathy. You'd want to get a 3-hr blood test.

At times I get very sensitive feet, late in the day, can't walk on them any more, don't know if I drank more cola that day. I thought of that but it doesn't happen very often any more. Don't know why.

I do take o.t.c. glucosamine chondroitin to lubricate painful arthritic ankle joints and that seems to help the sensitivity too. Does he have arthritis in his ankles?

There's also muscles and tendons that get stretched when you walk barefoot and feet are already tired. Doesn't it usually happen late in the day?
