Hi, I've posted on here before since I have weight problems, but I wasn't sure which topic I should go on for this, so I thought I might try here. I was wondering if any of you might be familiar with this, I have those little indentations on the sides of my tongue that are created by the tongue resting on the teeth, but this is usually assoicated with the tongue being a bit too large, and is called scalloping. I have heard this can be assoicated with being overweight, and thought that might be the cause. I don't even really know how long I've had this, the thing is, my Dad passed away due to what they think was amyloidosis a year ago, and one of the signs of this is an enlarged tongue. The specialist my Dad went to said that he didn't think that they type of amyloid that my Dad had was heredetary, but nothing is 100%. Anyway, amyloid is a very rare disease, and I am of course hoping that there is a more common, less serious cause of the tongue problem. It's not causing me any problems, and I'm not even sure I would have noticed it had I not been searching on the internet for symptoms of the amyloid thing. I did read in a couple of places where when you gain weight, the tongue can inlarge also. I am probably about 50 pounds overweight right now. Anyway, thanks for any help, I know this probably sounds strange!! Thanks, Val

Have you had your thyroid checked lately? Swollen tongue is one of the symptoms of hypothyroid.
