i was diagnosed with mono 5 years ago. i am not sure how i got it. i know that 3 other co-workers had it, but i wasn't kissing any of them. i used a pen from one and head phones from another. i was curious as i have learned here that mono stays in your blood forever, as does HIV, correct? how does your body fight off the mono and not HIV? also, i just had blood work done, if the mono was still there wouldn't they say something?

maybe helpful

Hi there! How are you?

In answer to your question, the Mono doesnt really STAY in your body the same way HIV does. HIV stays and continues to cause illness, and is never fought off. Mono stays in the fact that once youve had it, you will ALWAYS show an anti-body to it, without actully being symptomatic with the virus. Does that make sense?

And since you can have the anti-bodies, without being sick, theres no need to mention it if it shows on the blood tests, unless they were looking for it.

Hope that helps

hey ya,
i e-mailed you did ya get it?

anyway, i guess it makes sense, i was just curious as i thought maybe at some point i someone would have said something with all the illness i had after my pregnancy. they took like 80 vials of blood durring my hospital stay, so it seems like they looked for a lot of things. but i guess they didn't find anuthing. i have my appointment with my surgeon in the morning, we are going over the results from all the tests i have had in the past month. they were all "routine" considering the illness i had, to make sure it didn't do any serious damage. we shall see, i am very nervous.

Hi Nyxin,

Thanks for the comments with that German guy. I know i was alittle harsh but I just wanted to make my point and was not trying to make anyone feel unsafe. I took alot of time writing all that information for him and if he takes even just some of the advice seriously I will be greatful.

As for your question, HIV attacks the immune system itself. It is such a VIRULENT virus because it breaks down protective mechanisms of the host (BEIING YOU!). In other words, many times people who have HIV end up having even more higher frequencies of for example herpes outbreaks and even mono symptoms again because the immune system can no longer keep these infections under control. Most people with full blown AIDS end up always dying of another disease all because this virus destroyed their protective immune systems. YES, mono does stay in the body, and so does the herpes virus, but after awhile these viruses weaken overtime and people who have had for example, herpes for years end up only having one outbreak a year to near zero because the immune system knows what to do, and has immediate armies ready with the right stuff and has been "Trained" so to speak to kill the viruses sheading parts. Lets face it HIV and mono are two different kinds of viruses to begin with. HIV is a retrovirus. Mono is not and can be kept under control by immune system antibodies. One is life threating another is not. I also wanted to share with you that some small tiny fraction of individuals did go from HIV postive to HIV negative and those individuals that did used natural approaches to their health and lots of REAL LOVE and were able to boost their immune systems enough, and early enough to fight HIV. Its strange too how there are even people who seem to have a certain genetic gift where the HIV virus does not seem to attack their immune system cells but just remains in their bodies floating around still being able to infect others but they seem to remain healthy and full of life. Well I am going off on tangents again. I think all these bio classes ....geez I need a new hobby. Well hope this helps.

Sweetly yours,
Jimmy

thanks jimmy,
i appreciate your response. i am a little freaked out right now. it is 5 am and i can't sleep because i have an appointment with the doctor today. i had a lot of health problems durring and after my pregnancy, and was hospitalized for a rare colon infection about 4 months ago, i had all these tests done this past month to make sure everything has healed ok. durring which time i have gotten so freaked out that i am on anxiey meds and seriously having a hard time. i am so afraid that he is going to tell me i am sick, that something is really wrong. i havr really no reason to believe this. all my blood work came back normal, and i would think that is something was really wrong with the other test results they would call instead of letting me sit around for weeks on end. i donno. this sucks.
