Have been suffering a watery eye now for about three weeks. Its triggered by cold air and particulaly wind/air blowing directly into it. It settles down at night in bed, and indoors in general. I wear reading glasses but could it still be straining the eye at other times, that is causing the watering. Maybe its the cold time of year in the UK, and the outdoor nature of my work. I would appreciate any ideas on this.

I have the same problem. Only my nose gets watery too. And if I'm outside my ears hurt and I get headaches! This is always when its cold, windy or both. I figure its normal, but I wish there was something I could do about it. I hope someone can tell us.

Ironically it's due to "dry eye syndrome". No kidding. I had the same problem. Unfortunately, your problem is likely going to become worse. Not with more tearing, but the opposite. That's what happened to me. You eye overreacts to dryness, thus flooding them with tears. The next stage might the same as mine, where you then develop chronically dry eyes. Worse still, I now suffer from corneal erosions, since my eyelids rip the surface of my eyes when I sleep at night.

I now protect my eyes from any wind or breezes, in house or outside, but especially when driving. I purchased SportRx goggles (prescription lens) available on the internet, which have a foam seal that keeps any wind from hitting your eyes. It helps a great deal. I would highly recommend it.

Good luck!

I have this very same problem. I've had it for years. It's primarily my left eye that waters all the time. It's so irritating. I walk around with a kleenex in my hand all the time. Everyone thinks I'm crying. It's especially annoying when it waters after applying your make up and you have to keep repairing. I have been dealing with this for years.
I've had 2 doctors tell me it was from dry eyes. My regular optomotrist said my tear ducts were a little large and that maybe punctal (?spelling) plugs might be the answer. I don't want to consider that at the moment. I sleep with fans at night which they said may be contributing to my problem. But I can't sleep without them. They have me using natural tear drops during the day and an eye salve at night (which I forget. :( ). I even used an eye mask over my eyes when I went to bed. After reading Cured's experience, I'm going to try to remember to put the eye salve in every night.

Yes, it sounds like dry eyes to me too.
