Ok now I am totally confused after reading what stress wrote that she or he tested negative after 4 months but has heard of people being positive after testing at 6 months... I had sex on July 2 and tested on October 10 and was negative and the dotor told me that I did not need to test again at 6 months and I even asked a specialist and told me that if I do test at 6 months it will be negative again... can I just be sure that my tet was ngative and dont need to test again?

I posted under the other post, so you can check what I said there.
Your test, based on CDC guidlines, recomendations, and Drs. advice, is considered conclusive. Unless you have a SEVERLY weak immune system, had an exposure from some one you KNOW has HIV, or are a healthworker who had a needlestick injury, your test MEETS and EXCEEDS CDC guidlines.
If you are NOT confident about your test, test again after 6 months, but I highly doubt you need to, as it was considered conclusive.

Many people have a boyfriend/girlfriend or are a drug user and are having repeated exposures. Not everyone slips up stays completely safe for 3 months and then gets tested. They think well the first time I was exposed was say in July so If I test in October it will be fine, (even though they slept with the person the night before!) The best way is to stay safe for 3 months and then test, so if you did that I think it is ok. There is however someone on this board who says she is positive, and tested negative at 14 weeks then positive at 6 months. She said she knew her dates and it was a one time exposure. That scares me.

yeah, that's scary. Did she have a SEVERLY weak immune system or was a healthworker who had a needlestick injury?

I asked her if she had immune system problems and she said no. She says she is in good health. It was not from a needlestick injury. She said it was just a guy she knew and after the one time encounter, she heard rumors that he was HIV positive and thats what made her get tested. Plus she says she got pregnant from the incident. This whole story worreid me because I tested negative at 4 months and never retested myself.

I think the people who tested neg at 3 months and later turned positive were diagnosed quite some time ago. These days the tests are more accurate and can pick up the lower levels of the antibodies that the tests in the past may have missed, atleast that's my conclusion from this report:
This is dated from this year and claims 99% of people seroconvert within 3 months.

I am probably doing this wrong here, but I have some questions not really a reply. I do have a baby and a wonderful guy. But, lately I have been feeling many systems of hiv, and am very scared. I did have the test done for it before having my child and it came neg. When I was 16. Im now 23. At a party, a guy forced me for my first time. I havn't felt normal since. I went to the health unit and told them about the unpretected sex. They didn't take a blood test at all. The first one was this one now. Could it be possible that it was from that time, if I do have it? I was also tested after 3months in , and now is the 7th month, and I am feeling alot of weird things. Hard of breathing, yeast infections, bruising, chills, tiredness, just had a urinary tract infection, and so on. I am very scared. Anyways. We had intercourse just before the test too, so could that have made it negative even if you had possibly gotten it before that 3 months? I am so worried of my child, and boyfriend having it. I did ask my boyfriend to get blood work done, but i thought at first that maybe it was herpies, until now. He said that he will. How long do babies last with it usually if so?
Also, if you do have a test done at the doctors, if something is wrong. It will be brought to the attention of a Health Unit? I have sooo many questions, and can't seem to find the answers online. I tried to phone a 1800 # on it, and it said that I couldn't, cause it's out of my area code.
Thank you.

Hi! Im a little confused by the post. Can I ask you a few questions??
How long has it been since you thought you were exposed?
How long ago was your test?
Do you think your boyfriend may have it, not from you, but from before?
Are you currently pregnant, and if not, how old is your baby?
Are you in the United States, because I am not sure what you mean by health unit.?
I think I could help you answer some of your questions, and let you know what your risk is, if you dont mind answering a few of the questions. Thanks!
Also, in MANY cases, not all babies whose mother is HIV+ will also be HIV+. Some are born negative, even if the mother doesnt have care for the HIV. If a baby has it, there are some signs, but nothing you can tell for sure. A baby born with HIV will usually pass on before thier 2 years old, but some will live 5 years, and other who are treated can live 8 years and much longer.
Ill be glad to answer any questions you have.

I was tested on October 31st last year, but I had intercourse about a couple days before the testing. My baby is 71/2 months now, and I haven't been feeling all that great just recently. could I have been caring it for about 7 or 8 years though, and not know until now? I could that test not have worked because of having intercourse the couple days before it?
My baby seems very healthy, hasn't had any colds even yet. Did have thrush in it's mouth a little after being born, but the doctor said that's normal, and happens to many. Apparently I had it to when I was a baby.
I don't believe that he had it from before, my boyfriend that is.
When I was 16 I went to the Health Clinic to now if everything was alright with me after, and they didn't give me a blood test at all even after what I had told them what happened. I just had a pap done, and a regular pregnancy test done with uran.
I should also tell you that I am anemic. I had lost alot of blood after giving birth to my child. I am on iron pills, I know that could be some of the symptoms i'm getting possibly, but I feel that I have just way too many that I had read on a list on a site. And aspecially feeling a pain, and hard of breathing in my chest area. I've never felt that before until now. I was also in the hospital for 2 weeks after. They took blood lots, but I believe only tested my iron level. I'm not too sure if that was all. They didn't say, and I was to weak to care and ask then.
Thank you for helping me with my questions.
I pray that my child, and boyfriend are fine. I don't want to think that our baby will only live that short of a life.

First of all, I want to let you know that I know how you feel. I had a a baby (actually twins) when I was going through my HIV scare, so I know how distressing it is to think you may have cause harm to the ones you love the most. I spent the first 6 months of my babies lives looking for illness in them. I lost all joy for fear I had killed them by my actions. I know how scary it is, and just want to let you know, that you are not alone.
Ok, Im going to break it down little by little.
"I was tested on October 31st last year, but I had intercourse about a couple days before the testing. My baby is 71/2 months now, and I haven't been feeling all that great just recently. could I have been caring it for about 7 or 8 years though, and not know until now?"
If the person you had sex with just before the test, has HIV, or you suspect he has HIV, or you are not sure, then it is possible that he could have infected you and it didnt show up on the test. If this person is someone you have been with MANY times, it is unlikley that you werent ALREADY infected, (if he has it that is). If the only time you are not sure about happened 7 or 8 years ago then you would already be very ill, as people who have HIV and dont know it, and dont recieve treatment, usually get AIDS defining illnesses between 5 and 8 years, so it is LIKLEY you would already be ill. Plus, it would have shown up on your test, so you dont have to worry about that particular incident.

Thrush in infants is VERY VERY common. Thrush in children OVER two years old is NOT, and would need to be looked at. But for babies to have it, its very normal.
"When I was 16 I went to the Health Clinic to now if everything was alright with me after, and they didn't give me a blood test at all even after what I had told them what happened. I just had a pap done, and a regular pregnancy test done with uran."
They DEFINITLY should have done more work. An initial HIV test, and then a follow up one.
"I should also tell you that I am anemic. I had lost alot of blood after giving birth to my child. I am on iron pills, I know that could be some of the symptoms i'm getting possibly, but I feel that I have just way too many that I had read on a list on a site."
I was anemic and on iron pills at the begining of my pregnancy. Anemia and the pills MAY be causing some of the symptoms.
"And aspecially feeling a pain, and hard of breathing in my chest area. I've never felt that before until now. I was also in the hospital for 2 weeks after. They dont run HIV tests unless they tell you, its the law.
As for your symptoms: ""Hard of breathing, yeast infections, bruising, chills, tiredness, just had a urinary tract infection""
They could be caused by any number of things, and UTIs arent usually a sign of HIV. Yeast infections are COMMON in women, and are only troublesome if you have LOTS and they are hard to treat.
If your boyfriend was the ONLY person you were with AT LEAST 3 months before your test was sone, then the way to find out is simple. HE needs to be tested. Then your test is conclusive, and you know he doesnt have it, and everyone is fine. Thats the best advice I can give.
If you have any more questions, just ask.

I do have a couple more questions thanks.
I was just reading on these boards that some tested 4months in and where neg., but after 6 months in tested positive. And that if your immune system is weak that is why it may not show until then.
Also, I was with only my boyfriend for about 5 months before I had the test done.
I really shouldn't do this I know. Im just going to think that I have everything now, but I found something called HHT, Telangiectasia. Which can cause pain in chest, plus being anemic can too. I don't know though. Stress is probably causing stuff too.
But, I sure thank you for answer my question, best to your knowledge, and the only thing is to get the nerve and get check out.
