I have had your typical allergy testing and nothing. I react to chemicals. My nose swells shut.. horrible headache and I sometimes even lose my voice when exposed to chemicals. I can hardly eat any preprepared food. Does anyone know of any place that tests for reactions to chemicals?

I did not get any headaches or liss of voice, but my nose did get stuffed up, runny nose, anxiety, irritability. I use to have bad reactions to finger nail polish and chlorine in pool water.
Cannot help you on who could test you except I would think an allergist. But I can tell you that wonce I started to nasal irrigate, those reactions stopped. I no longer have any problems to the above chemicals.

Sophina,

I have the very similar reactions. Perfumes, colognes, cleaning solutions cause my sinuses to swell and my head go in a fog. I also get a sore throat and my eyes get super baggy. This all started for me after I had an allergic reaction to an antibiotic a couple years ago. I have found no relief yet. It's frustrating. I tested for allergies too and was allergic to just about everything airborne. Although the only food I was allergic to was yeast.

NY01....you might want to check into "candida". I know most MDs poo-poo that idea, but read some books about it and form your own opinion. The fact that it came on after antibiotics is a red flag and ALSO that you're allergic to yeast. I have "chemical sensitivities" too....I get post nasal drip from fragrances and fumes, etc. Later I had a problem with contact dermatitis (itchy private parts after using soaps, etc., that'd I'd been using forever). Each different "episode" came on after a round of antibiotics. There's a good forum at healthyawareness.com.

Thanks Tabby,

Have you had any success with the anti-candida stuff for your chem sensitivites??

Well, I cant' tell things are any better, but with avoidance of the irritants, I'm okay (of course, I want to be well again and keep them from getting worse). I've not been really diligent with the anti-candida diet and anti-fungals yet.....it's a long and strict road to walk, and I'm just not very disciplined, and I'm really just starting. I'm trying, though, and cleaning up my diet from sugar and refined foods can only help. I've found lots of testimonials from people who have beaten it, so there's hope. I just don't want things to get any worse! Good luck.
