I have an important event tonight-in 3 hours to be exact-and my allergies are horrible today! I took my Claritin and it did NOTHING...this happenens every so often when my allergies are bad. My nose won't stop running and I am sneezing. What can I do to get me through the evening?? I am so upset because this is something I have to be at...otherwise, I'd stay home and blow my nose all night. Anyone have some fast cures??

Irrigate sinuses with saline solution. You are sneezing due to allergens getting into your air passages.

Homemade Mix: 1 cup boiled water, 1/2 teaspoon salt, 1/2 teaspoon baking soda. Dissolve, strain thru paper coffee filter or clean handkerchief. LET COOL (put in freezer if necessary). Put in a clean empty nasal spray bottle. Lie on bed on back with head hanging off, squirt 3 or 4 times in each nostril. Turn head side to side so solution will travel around in sinuses. Say KKKKKKKK while getting up so solution does not run down throat. Wait few minutes and then blow your nose. More junk will drain out in a little while. This will wash out the allergns and help heal sinuses. NO, DO NOT USE THE FULL 1 CUP AMOUNT each time. That is just the ratio you need to go by to mix.

DO NOT SNIFF THIS MIXTURE WITH BAKING SODA, NOT SURE THAT WOULD BE GOOD FOR THE LUNGS. PLAIN SALT WATER WOULD BE O.K. TO SNIFF.

Disclaimer: I am not a doctor, but the above has been approved by my doctors over the years. In fact many doctors are returning to the saline solution for nasal irrigation these days. They even have saline nasal spray in pharmacies. I only sniff the ones that I buy.
Use at your own risk. I use this night and morning.

I have been irrigating for 6 months now, and that sounds crude to me at best. Buy nasaline ($23) and irrigate with a 60CC syringe. Mix 2 cups of water with 1/2 tsp of noniodized sea salt and 1/4 tsp of fresh baking soda. I filter the water using a "Brita" attached to your faucet and then boil the water. Let cool. I then heat up the water in the microwave. Add dry ingredients and mix.
You can save some time and buy bottled water. I irrigate twice a day and it is awesome.
