Hello. I am new to this board and have a question. Do any of you experience a stiffness or pain coming up the back of your neck and turning into a migraine? Sometimes I feel like my headaches start that way, while other times they just seem to be located in and around my right eye. Also, if the pain starts up my neck, is it really a migraine or is it just tension? Sometimes I think EVERY headache is a migraine or turns into one. What do you all think?
Thanks!

Oh yes, I do often have pain in my neck, although mine don't usually start out that way. For example, this morning I had terrible pain over my right eye, on top of my head and down the right side of my neck. I don't really know when I'm having a tension headache as opposed to a migraine - I just know they both hurt!

So do you take your migraine medicine whenever you have a headache at all? My doctor told me to take the Imitrex as soon as I think I have a headache. Now I am wondering if I am taking too much medicine for my headaches. Some months are pretty good, but as of today, I have had a headache nearly every day since the 22nd of November! The Imitrex usually can hold the headaches off, but not always. Sometimes the medicine makes the pain go away, but I still feel sort of sick and tired. Oh, and the depression can come with it too.

I just got some free samples of Maxalt from my Dr. on my last visit. I definitely would not take them for every headache. Only the ones that are making me feel somewhat nauseaous and hurt quite badly. I think you can get rebound headaches from drugs such as Maxalt if you take them too much (although I'm not sure about that). I'm sorry to hear you have them everyday - I have them almost every day as well, which is why I'm going to the Dr. today to try another headache "prevenative" to take every day. I tried Pamelor (which worked great), but had bad side effects.

It's so hard sometimes, isn't it? I'll let you know what my Dr. says today.

Jane
