Why does my son have a problem with specifically coughing for during and about 24 hours after visiting a certin friends home. It's been this way now for 7 years. He doesn't go there very often because of it.
We do not have a dust free home but I do know they have a dustier home. They also have heating air ducts that have likely never been cleaned for 20 years. We have radiant infloor heat.(helps with lessening dust because of no heating vents.)
Has anyone else had this problem?
P.S. Its not chlorine tap water that causing the coughing this time...he doesn't drink their water or anything that might have their chlorine tap water in it.

I have read on these borads that tap water can cause severe coughing. Some checmical added taht casues this. Do both your homes have the same source of water? Just a thought.
Dear previous poster,
My kids are allergic/sensitive to chlorine tap water.
He was not drinking any at his friends house.
Chlorine tap water causes my kids to cough... a lot.
Is chlorine tap water what you were referring to in your posting??

Yes, chlorinated tap water. I read I the boards about this lady who had her kids coughing and after a long struggle figured out it was the city tap water. She replaced it with bottled water and the coughing stopped over night. I remember nothing more, but it is in the posts 2 months back I think.
Yes, the chlorine poster is me. I often think about how many people could be out there coughing away gettting sicker and sicker and doctors say they have asthma or cough varient asthma or they say we dn't know WHAT you have and they go on without help or relief.
Our kids coughed for ten months. After switching to bottled water the coughs stoppped within two days or so.
After that the only thing that still bothered our smaller 3 year old was the morning after a bath she would cough some but it was very mild. I could detect this because she didn't take a bath every night. It was a pattern that lasted another year until we moved and we then had well water to bathe in instead of chlorinated water from the public water system.
I figured the closed space without proper ventalation and likely drinking some while she bathed (she was 3 years old at the time).
Several time since our son has fallen victom to forgetting about the chlorine sensitivity and drank school water after gym class and started coughing in a couple of days. The first thing I always ask even before "Do you have a cold" is, "Have you been drinking someones water" The cough stopped in 24 hours. It can make him very sick if the also has a cold and gets chlorine water he even wheezes.

I've got allergies to certain dyes. I've got to be very careful with the dyes in bedding. Could your son be reacting to their bedding?
There are so many different allergens that could effect someone. Does your son's friend have pets? Do they have older wall to wall carpeting? Do they have cloth furniture?
Upholstered furniture and wall to wall carpeting can trap dusts and dirts that are impossible to get completely clean. Does your son lie on their carpeting? My allergies got a lot better after I ripped ALL of the carpetting out of my home.
What about his diet when he is over there? It could be a food or drink allergy.
Do they have various plants or flowers planted in their yard that you don't have in yours? How about trees? DO they have a different type of grass than you have?
Do they have plants inside their home?
Do they have artificial flowers or plants in their home? Some of the chemicals on artificial flowers or plants can be quite irritating.
Does anyone in their home smoke?
Just figured I throw some stuff out.
Good luck on finding out what it is!
