KIDINSANITY

I'm hoping someone can help me with this one.......
About a week ago, I discovered a lump on my 2 yr old son's head. I know this doesn't sound like something to be worried about, but the swelliing hasn't gone down and it doesn't seem to bother him at all. You'd think if he smashed his head, it would hurt when I touch it, right?
Since this is my 3rd child, I don't want to be rushing to the dr. for every little bump, but this one has me worried. The only difference in his behavior is that he is falling asleep a little earlier at night. He's eating fine and his pupils are equal and reactive to light.
Do I bring him to the ER, or just the pediatrician? Can I demand a CT scan or X-ray or do I just have to see what he says and possibly be placated or put off?
There is a stupid reason for feeling this way, but I also don't want it to consume me. About 10 years ago, we got a Black Lab puppy for our "transition to parenthood." She was our world, just as any child would be. At the age of 2 1/2 (my son't age) I noticed a lump on her side and took her to the vet. She had been hit with a bal in the ribs while playing and we thought it might be a bruised bone/muscle or something. Our vet told us it was probably nothing and did some blood work to placate me. Well, the results came back with a terribly rare cancer and she was gone in less than 2 months.
I know this isn't going to happen to my son, but I just can't help but think about it. I know I'm being foolish.
Thanks for any advice you can give.
