My mind is moving, but my bodies not.
I'm lying here in some twisted knot.
I cannot swallow, my lips won't move.
I can't even utter the words that I choose.
Is there anything left to loose?
This is not the life I would choose.
I want to tell you I love you in another time and place.
I wonder can you read it in my eyes, can you see it on my face?
I can't reach out and touch your hand.
I can't roll over, walk or stand.
I'm just a shell, a silent muse.
This is not the life I would choose.
So before you make the final choice to tie me to a tube,
Remember I have no voice.
It's not up to me, now it's up to you.
Remember I love, please love me too.
Life goes on to colour another hue.
This is not the life I would choose.
Dedicated to my Aunt Edna, whom I love very much.

I have to say that this is one the most beautiful, yet, heart breaking poems I have heard in a long time. I ask, if I may print this and give to my father? Thank you for saying what you needed to. It was perfect!

What a beautiful poem. I write poetry as well, and you did a wonderful job capturing the emotion that I think is felt by an ALS patient and their loved ones.
My grandfather from my Dad's side died a couple years ago from ALS and my Dad took it really rough. My grandfather had 7 children and 25 grandchildren. I'd like to share your poem with him and the rest of my family, if you don't mind. Thanks for publishing your poem...it really touched me.
