Our 19 month old gave up his guk-guk ( paci) last month! Now I have a hard time getting him to take more than 1/2 hour nap 2 times a day. He goes to bed and sleeps through the night. No matter how long he's up during the day, he won't take a nap for me. Please help!!!

Hello, Maybe your toddler doesn't need a nap. It is suggested that toddlers get 12-13 hours of sleep per day, which includes the night. How many hours is your child sleeping at night? I've never heard of 2 naps for a toddler, so maybe that's a cultural thing. We used to put our son down for a 2 hour nap, once per day at 2:00PM. It wasn't my idea, since I was never a napper either. My husband is an afternoon napper type. We used to just lay down with our son for a nap and tell him to just lay there, be quiet, and close his eyes...Sure enough he'd fall asleep and we'd have to wake him up after the 2 hours. Sleep is important for brain function; however, we must remember that each child is different.

My sons went from taking two naps down to one by the time they were 19 months or so. As long as he isn't cranky and sleeps well through the night should be okay! You just won't have any quiet time :)!
