Hi,
I have had a constant headache for over a month now. It isn't severe-more like a constant dull ache/pressure on both sides of my head. I also get a tingling sensation off and on over my scalp and face.
I went to my dr. again last week and he said this was a tension headache and prescribed me a muscle relaxer called Skelaxin. Well, I've been taking it since Friday and my headache hasn't gotten any better.
My question is...if my headache is caused by tension, wouldn't the muscle relaxer take it away?
Thanks for any replys~

You should be discussing this w/your doctor not in this forum. Give your dr a call ASAP. Maybe he/she will prescribe something else that will work.

My guess would be maybe it isn't a tension headache. I have suffered from migraines for over 10 yrs. and its been trial and error since then. They may not hit the nail on the head right away, it may take several treatment plans before they find something that really works for you. Don't give up, just give him a call and tell them its not working and he can try something different. I don't think any medication is guaranteed every time you have a headache. I have found some things that work well, but I'll get the occasional headache it won't take care of. I wish you the best, it's a long hard road, but you will find something that works eventually!!

I was prescribed Skelaxin for some muscle pain and it didn't do a thing for me. I told my doctor it was like taking a sugar pill and that I got better relief from Advil and cheaper too.
At the time that I was taking Skelaxin, my headaches were in remission so I don't know if they would have helped with the headaches but I am suspecting not. My headaches are back now and I do have some leftover Skelaxin but I am sticking with my fioricet since it seems to help the most. I was prescribed these by my family doctor who keeps telling me that I am probably having migraines or tension headaches but I went ahead and made an appointment with a neurologist. My head thingy isn't so much as a headache but rather a head pressure that makes it hard for me to think and focus. My mri and ct scans were both negative but I still think it's time to see a specialist.

Thanks so much for the replys.
actudan,
I know what you mean about Skelaxin. I felt no effects from it at all.
I'm going back in to see my dr. tomorrow. Hopefully, he'll let me try something else.
Thanks again,

I have found a med that has helped with m headaches! Recently went to a bone dr. cause am having alot of back pain, along with the headaches. I had been taking Soma(muscle relaxant) and didn't seem to help much. Anyway, the dr prescribed Norgesic Forte(also a muscle relaxant) that has helped my back and for some reason. really helped with headache pain. I know it has caffeine in it and aspirin. Just a suggestion that helped me. Good luck and take care,SusieQ
i get those same headaches, but they dont last that long,, only a couple days at most. if i get my neck - back cracked by chiro it helps. also Fioricet (butatilabal w/tylenol/caffiene worked well for me when i get those headaches. have you tried?? ask your doc. ,, i agree that muscle relaxers stink at helping the headaches go away. good luck.
