Hi! Well, it has been a few days since I have asked you anything. Had another question. I posted a few days ago about my head being so full and maybe being this artery syndrome thing. My neck has been so stiff. Also it crunches alot when I turn it. Last night my husband was rubbing my neck and all of the sudden there was the loudest pop! It startled both of us and I was afraid to move for a minute. But there wasn't any different feeling from it.
You had neck tension but not head fullness, right?
Also, back to my eyes. Next week I go see the neuro-optometrist and kind of nervous about it, even tho' I definitely need to go.
I have told you that my eyes feel jumpy. What I have figured out is that, say that I find two different focal points on my right and my left. When I go to focus back and forth on each point my eyes do not go straight to the object but stop close to it and then there is another movement to the object. My eyes do not "flow". It is like that all the time. Since that is what my visual is like, that means I have a constant interruption when I am using my vision. That would definitely make for a "spinny" type feeling. Does that make sense?
Did your eyes do that? Do you think that is part of the inner ear thing?
I have been taking, for the last 3 nights, half of a .5mg. of lorazepam to relieve my neck and head pressure. It is helping but I don't want to keep taking it cause I don't want to mess things up. But I know that my lightheadedness is worse from this pressure I am getting from my neck. The balance therapist in Chicago told me that the medication could actually help me.
It is a hard call. But I have felt better this last week. Starting to feel more "normal" than I have. Supposed to have gone the the balance therapist today but she had the flu. Going next week instead.
Also, something else that has popped up is I am getting this warm sensation on the outside of my calf from time to time and it feels like someone has poured warm water down my leg. It is really weird! Do not know where that is coming from!!! My body is falling apart and I am only 46!
Inner ear sure affects alot of stuff! Probably has something to do with nerves. You have mentioned something about nerves healing. Do the nerves heal eventually as the compensation happens? Or do they stay damaged. Don't know much about that.
Appreciate any information you might have on any of this!
Getting ready for a big snow!!! It is has been pouring rain all day (which we badly needed). It is going to turn to ice for awhile then maybe 5 inches of snow. The boys will be thrilled! I got out today and did some stuff since I might be stuck in for awhile!
Hope you are feeling great!!!!
Thanks for your help!!!!
Blessings!

Some of things you describe will not come from the inner ear. The warm feeling in the calf would have nothing to do with the inner ear. Sounds more like a spinal problem........cervical spine problems will cause the dizzies.......visual problems.....and feelings in the legs.......have you been to a neurologist?

Hey, pd50!
Do you think it is possible that these symptoms could be the result of 5 months of inner ear disorder from the inner tension from imbalance! After about 2 months of being dizzy, I became so full of anxiety and tension that it would sweep over me. It was horrible. My neck became tense and my head heavy. I have just assumed that I am living with the affects of tension caused by the distress my brain has been in with the inner conflict of my inner ear being messed up.
I have been to an ENT and a neuro-otologist but have only had an ear test done. So far, no one has seemed to think I need further testing. But I am not so sure. I am having weird sensations, light tingling in my arms, legs, and face, and this warm sensation I explained above. I don't know, but I do think I will call my personal doctor and maybe he can refer me somewhere. Not sure what to do where to turn.
What do you think Subs? Would love to hear your input.
Thanks,
Vicki

Hi Vicki

..."You had neck tension but not head fullness, right?".....

Yep---correct--also the popping when turning my head---still have it---but does not cause me any problems---relative to balance, etc....

..." my eyes do not go straight to the object but stop close to it and then there is another movement to the object."....

Yes---had that---in fact---one of the VRT(vision) exercises I was given---was to practice focusing on an object then looking away to another object---then closing my eyes and look back at the first object---then open my eyes--to see how close I was---in the beginning not very---over time---with practice---and getting better---could do it---with no prob.

..."make for a "spinny" type feeling. Does that make sense?"....

Absolutely---the vestibular problem is screwing up--your vision---and that is causing---your vision to give bum inputs to the brain's equilibrium center---which is saying "Whoa!"

..."Did your eyes do that? Do you think that is part of the inner ear thing?"...

Yes---to both---had a lot of trouble---because of---the fact---that I do not have binocular vision---slowed my compensation--considerably.

.."water down my leg. It is really weird! Do not know where that is coming from!!!"....

Never had that one--wonder how---I missed out---not sure on that one.

..."Do the nerves heal eventually as the compensation happens? Or do they stay damaged. Don't know much about that.".....

There was a time when the medical types--thought that nerves(cells) could not regenerate--about ten years ago--that started to change--as more was learned through extensive research---they(and we) now know that nerve stem cells are generated(not in a large amount) in a healthy brain continuously--these brain stem cells---must make their way to the part of the brain--where there are damaged cells that need to be replaced---takes about six weeks from the time the stem cell comes about---until it finds it way--to the correct location--and completes the process of becoming/replacing a damaged/dead brain cell---unfortunately--not all stem cells survive--to make the journey--or find their way to locations within the brain---that need them---what the research is focusing on now---is how to assure stem cell survival--and--get it to the right location.

So---yes--damaged nerve cells--can be replaced---as for compensation---two things can/are taking place--over time---while---damaged nerve cells--are awaiting replacement/repair---the brain is learning to---figure out what is going on and is correct with what ever is left---for example if the right side(ear) is bad/bum---the brain is learning(compensating) to disregard the right side and use the signals from the left side(ear)--so compensation--gets started--that way---as/if the bad nerve cells are replaced/regenerate---then the brain--starts to use that side in addition to the left side for input to the equilibrium center---but---you need to do the VRT(correct VRT exercises)--to force the brain---to realize--the right side is returning--to a healthy state--and should be used to determine balance---in addition to the left side.

If for some reason---it is not clearly understood---yet---why---the nerves are not replaced---or can not be replaced---then---you live with--the brain compensated only to the left side(i.e., right side bad)

----there is some evidence that ---"stress"---plays a role---in stem cell generation---and then the stem cells getting to the right spot and becoming new brain cells

---so from that stand point

---it is "healthy" to understand what is going on---how it is going on---what it is not---and what it is

---so that healing can take place

--if it is going to happen at all.

Hi, Subs!
Thanks for the information! I do feel that whatever is going on in my body that it originated from the inner ear disorder. The kind of tension that I had at he beginning was SO severe. Even tho' I am still somewhat imbalanced, I am so thankful that I don't have the waves of anxiety and tension I did for awhile. It seemed to settle down after I quit actually spinning which has been about 2 months.
Is the eye problem something the neuro-optometrist will be able to help or is that something that has to be helped by the exercises? The hesitation I am experiencing in looking from object to object. Does it help to sit and practice trying to focus object to object?
My balance therapist has been focusing more on my walking balance and hasn't recommended anything for my vision.
Thanks again for your help!
Well, we only got about 1/2 inch of snow! It usually always happens that way! The boys are ready to go out and play in the 1/2 inch tho'!
Hope you have a great day, Subs!
Blessings!

The inner ear problem probably caused the muscles in the neck area to tense and go into spasm. I had lots of problems after I got the labs with tense neck muscles. What I did was stretching excercises to help release the tension.
I have a book my Dad gave me from his Doc. about the neck area.......it says problems in that area can cause dizziness....off balance feelings......feeling like you will black out......pins and needle sensations........so if you are tense in that area try to get those muscles stretched. When in spasm they can squeeze blood vessels and nerves.

Hi Vicki

..."Is the eye problem something the neuro-optometrist will be able to help or is that something that has to be helped by the exercises?"...

The neuro-optometrist will be very helpful in this area---at least they were for me---in addition to changing the lens in the right eye---they provided exercises---which also help---just ask them---if there is any eye exercises you can do that will help---after the exam is complete

.."Does it help to sit and practice trying to focus object to object?"....

I did for me--I did them a least five to ten times a day---when ever I thought about it......

.."balance therapist has been focusing more on my walking balance"...

Yep that is were they usually start---but---the neuro-optometrist---will focus on your eyes---as they relate to the balance issues.....
