I was just diagnosed with PCOS. My mother is freaking out because her sister (Nurse Practitioner) told her it was pre-diabetes. I told my mom that was not true...my doctor never mentioned anything like that. My blood sugar tests cam back normal. She put me on Clomid for fertility. I have irregular periods and always have. I am a little nervous. How hopeless is PCOS...I have heard that sometimes Clomid can help, but sometimes nothing helps. Can anyone share their experience with PCOS with me?
Thanks,
Jessi

Hi. My SIL has PCOS and is trying to conceive. She got a lot of good information from the PCOS website. If you do a google search, you can get lots of info on it. MY SIL was never told it was prediiabetes either.
Good Luck

I was diagnosed with PCOS b/c my LH is 3 times higher than my FSH. I have regular periods, and all my other PCOS tests came back normal--even the insulin, glucose, and other diabetes indicators. So, you are not prone to diabetes necessarily, but if it is in your family, you should continue getting your blood checked. I have heard it is more difficult for women with PCOS to conceive, but not impossible. Good luck!

Hi Jessie,
I have PCOS and I have been TTC for 4 1/2 years we tried 5 cycles of IUI with Clomid 50 mg - 150 mg and all of them failed I tried BCP for 6 weeks and another IUI with 100mg clomid and I have been on a break for 2 months and I was going to start IVF on Christmas eve and I canceled it cause I am PG all on our own. So the point is with PCOS there is hope.

Hi Jessi,
There is hope for women with PCOS, I am 25 and was dx with PCOS last year when my husband and I decided to start TTC. PCOS is often referred to as the "sister" disease to diabetes and although many of us will never suffer from diabetes it is good to keep an eye on things and educate yourself. Women can get pregnant, Clomid is a drug many women start out with but often PCOS'ers are Clomid resistant, I tried the drug and it was not helpful to me. I did my first IUI with Gonal-F in March and became pregnant with twins, sadly I went into preterm labor in August and they were born premature, they passed away a few hours after they were born but their being born too soon had nothing to do with PCOS. So there is hope, best of luck to you. Sending lots of babydust your way!!
Hugs

I was diagnosed with PCOS about 2 years ago. I was on Clomid and I had reactions to it. My doctor finally said that I would need to go to a RE. I went to my apt with my husband and started on Follistim shots for about 2 weeks. I went for my first IUI on Saturday and we keep our fingers crossed that this works. Feel free to write back if you want someone to talk to. tara_dickel@yahoo.com

Hello - You may or may not know me - I was on here the first part of last year - I am 26 and have PCOS - although I have had 3 m/c over the past 8 years I have a 7 yo dd and am currently 21 wks pg. So there is hope.
The bad news - non o fthe infertility stuff worked for me and the only thing that seems to work for me to get pg is antianxiety meds - for some reason (I don't know what the link is) but both paxil and prozac totally regulated my AF and 3 times I conceived within 3 mos. of going on it.
As for my m/c I have low progesterone and also a blood clotting disorder so this pg I was on progesterone supps for the first 13 wks and I take 1 baby asprin a day and I will until the baby is born.
Just thougth I would post to let you know there is hope!

These ladies posted some good information. It is true (from what I have read) that women with PCOS have a higher probability of developing Type II diabetes, and that is why most PCOS women are put on low-carb diets and glucophage. Some women get pregnant by themselves with just the low-carb diet (Taz on this board for instance), and some need a little more. I just gave birth to my first daughter three weeks ago, courtesy of 1500 mg daily glucophage, a low-carb diet, follistim (injectible medication), and Ovidrel (to make me ovulate) - oh, and timed intercourse :) I know it sounds like a lot, but it was worth it. There are tons of success stories on this board. Good luck.
