After browsing the website http://med-aapos.bu.edu/publicinfo/store2/Blepharitis-Cure5.58PM.html for the last six months, and speaking to numerous eye doctors, I believe we still need more information.

This thread will hopefully give us more detailed information then we have previously received so please don’t use this thread to ask questions. These can be asked on the other site already mentioned.

While undeniably the above site is a fantastic source for people new to blepharitis and for sharing information and must therefore be continued to be used, much of the information contained there is disorganized and focused on management as a pose to a cure.

The aim of this site is to try and see if any patterns arise between people with this disorder, so we can then treat the underlying condition and hopefully cure the disorder from shared information.

As such, please answer the following questions so we can build up a knowledge base of why this is occurring:

How old are you?
How long have you had blepharitis for?
Did you have any pre existing eye conditions (e.g slightly dry eye, red eyes)
What form of blepharitis do you think you have?
What symptoms do you have (describe in detail)? Include here whether the eyes feel the same or different in terms of degree of irritation and how your eyes appear?
Do you have any disorders in addition to blepharitis?
Do you have allergies?
Your general health including diet and whether you smoke/take any recreational drugs?
Have you taken any strong medication in the past ten years e.g. roaccutane? If yes, when?
Were you wearing contacts prior to the onset of blepharitis and are you still able to wear them now?
What treatments have you tried and for how long (list in detail)
What other factors make you feel better / worse (indoors / outdoors)?
What improvements you have had so far.
Other relevant information (e.g. whether you have had Lasik etc.,)

Please also keep in mind that while it is good for you to give answers as detailed as possible, it is also important to keep them succinct, organized and roughly in order of questioning.

Hopefully, if we work together this will allow us to find a cure!

I am 20.
I have had fully blown blepharitis for the past fourteen months.
Prior to this I have always exhibited slightly red eyes. I also have a slight turn in one eye although this has never been noticeable when the tear film was stable. Now, if I don’t put in eye drops, the increased irritation of an unstable tear film makes it more apparent.
I think I have MGD (meibomitis) or posterior blepharitis.
Symptoms include irritated, red eyes, particularly in the morning. Often, and moreso in the morning, my eyelids feel swollen. I have had some styes although these haven’t appeared for some time and disappeared soon after placing compresses on them. Main symptom is a general discomfort and burning. Eyelids are not noticeably red although whites of eyes are. I have dry eyes now - low results on shirmers test now <5. My right eye always feels considerably worse then left eye and has worse results on shirmers.
I have no disorders other than blepharitis.
I do have a dust allergy.
I am in fantastic health otherwise (the naturopath said I am on one of the healthiest people he has seen except for this). I do however take the odd recreational drug (3-4 times a year). I don’t smoke.
I took roaccutane about five years ago.
I was wearing contacts until diagnosis. I now can’t / won’t wear them.
Treatments I have tried
I put eyedrops in four times a day.
I do compresses twice a day (used to be more)
Have tried Chinese formula (lykii-rehmannia) for dry eyes
Have stopped drinking coffee, most alcohol.
Evening primrose oil and fish oil caps
Homeopathic treatment (im still doing)
Various other oils (homeopathic mixture – im still doing)
I feel better the less time I spend at home (outdoors).
Major improvement has been in level of discomfort. E.g. I can now sit and type at computer for hours on end as long as I use eyedrops. This was not possible until after a few months of treatment.
