I am a 41 year old female and have very high Cholesteral levels. For the past few days I have had a lot of chest pain when I have any excertion, that travels down my left arm and into my neck. I am constantly tired, even after an eight hour night of sleep. I checked my blood pressure, which is normal. Do you think I should be concerned?

Thanks,
Melly

Yes, you should be concerned. Blood pressure is not an indication of how your heart is doing IF you are having something like a heart attack.

So you have chest pain on exertion which goes away when you rest I take it. Do you get short of breath? When you get the chest pain, describe its quality. Is it sharp, or is it a dull pain? Do you get sweaty when the pain hits you?

I am not saying that you are having a heart attack....but you may be having the warning signs that one is about to happen....i.e. angina. Are you on any medications for your high cholesterol? What is your blood pressure usually?

Yes, I do get short of breath and the pain is more dull than sharp. No, I do not get sweaty. As I said before, with rest it usually eases off after awhile. I was unable to take any type of prescription meds for the high cholesterol (allergic reactions), so I take Niacin at bedtime. My blood pressure is usually 120/80.

Have you ever been prescribed nitro spray? If you haven't, you should probably get it. I would go to your family doctor and tell him/her about your new symptoms. You'll probably need to go for some more investigations.

If you have any more questions, please feel free to ask.

Thank you. I do plan to find a doctor ASAP. We just moved to the coast last week and don't know of any doctors.
