I get very nervous when going to the doctor everytime. Is there anything that I can take that would calm me down ahead of time. My blood pressure is always around 100 over 60. My pulse will always be over 100 though. Thanks for any help.

Try deep breathing exercises or meditation etc on a regular basis. Some of this has helped me immensely in the past.

Also maybe you can try and remember that your visit to the Doctor is not going to make you any worse. Your trip to the doctor might actually help in uncovering the ailment and hence a suitable treatment.

I'm the same way. I have white coat hypertension bad. My blood pressure is good. I take it myself. Whenever I go into the doctor it's high. I have an appointment today and for the last month it's been good. I have kept a log. I took it this morning when I got up and it was high. Just the thought of going in there makes it go up.

This could be most probably be due to hyperventilation which in turn is due to anxiety due to the impending visit to the doctor.

There are many good books which detail "Diaphragmatic breathing" and other anti-anxiety breathing techniques which work very well with instant results. I tell this from years of experience feeling anxious and tense due to various upcoming events. The events could be anything - from attending a function to just going to a doctor.

If you practice this breathing techniques for 20 minutes twice a day you will start to see immense benefits almost immediately. Improper breathing is attributed as a cause for various ailments also.

Best regards!

I have been hearing and reading more and more about breathing techniques lately. I will have to start practicing it. Thanks for the advice.

Picture him in his underpants with a Groucho Marx mask on....
And then raise his blood pressure by telling him if his treatment regimen doesn't improve you'll stop paying him and call the AMA....

You'll both laugh SOOOO HARD!
(then take HIS blood pressure.)
