On Tuesday, I am going to have my stent removed in my urologists office. The stent was placed while under general anasthesia, but I guess it's going to come out without using anything. I am really having some anxiety over this since I am not seeing any sort of string hanging out that others have talked about. What can I expect as far as the procedure and the pain? I am thinking about taking one of the Lorcet 10, that was prescribed for the kidney stone before I go.

My wife has had it done once and she says NEVER AGAIN, She has also had a stent coming out one time and the Dr did a X-ray in the office to make sure. We had been tryin to tell him for 2 1/2 weeks she thought it was coming out, becuz of the major pain and bleeding she was having. Oh heah we went to the E.R. first and they said to contact her Dr in the morning, they did an X-ray and saw it was comin out. They said there was nothing they could do for her but some pain meds. Well this lovely Dr put the stent back in. ( IN THE OFFICE W/ NOTHING FOR PAIN). Then he just said ok your done get dressed and he left the room while my wife was screaming and crying in pain. I hope your case goes alot better than hers. She will not have anything done in the office again just because of this deal.

Hang in there!! Take care!!!!

Oh sweet Jesus, I told my wife that it was not going to be a walk in the park. I'm definitely taking the Lortab now.

I'm hoping it won't be too awful since I've only had the stent in for almost two weeks. The stone has passed, but now we gotta get this thing out.

Sorry I hope I didn't scare you. There is a little good news it is over very quickly and the pain will lessen up. My wife had already been dealing with alot of stones she was passing and she was already very very sore down there. And her and stents don't get along at all. They seen to argue w/each other alot. LOL Again this was just her case. Others I know might say it wasn't that bad, but my wifes case with all of the daily gravel she passed for the last 8 yrs has alot to do with it.

Sorry again.....

I guess I had better call there today and ask what to expect, and what I can do to prepare for it. I've been reading the board here and different people say that a string was actually hanging out to remove the stent, but so far I've saw no string. I had to have the stent because a stone blocked my ureter and ruptured my right kidney. Uro seems to think everything will heal back nicely, but still wants to keep an eye on renal functions for a while...

I am a male, 54 years old, and had stent removed about 3 months ago. It really was not that big a deal for me. Nurse inserted some type of gel into penis to numb it and Dr. then inserted a scope into the bladder. Just a slight pressure sensation when scope was initially inserted. As Dr neared the bladder he had me take a deep breath and there was minor pain which lasted only a second or two as it entered the bladder. He grabbed the end of the stent and in one motion removed it and scope. Whole procedure probably lasted less than 1 minute. Hopefully yours will no more uncomfortable than that.

Good luck and let us know how it went.

Had stent removed yesterday. Everything was fine until he started to enter the bladder. I was busy having regular bladder spasms, so when he got there and tried to go inside the bladder with the scope--he couldn't get through. He kept trying to push through, but finally used about a pint of fluid to open things up. He got the stent out, but then and now, I am in a lot of pain. Very hard to walk like a human :) Can't wait to get back to normal again...

I have had two taken out and without any pain meds or being put to sleep.
You can feel it but it wasn't too bad. The pain from the stent the second time was so much I was thankful to get the thing out. The first stent I had I never felt it while it was in. The second one was painful and caused badder problems.
It doesn't take long to get it out. Hope this helps. Polly

At first, I was feeling really bad, but now I'm actually feeling like a person again. With the stent, it seemed I was running to the bathroom at least once every 15 minutes. Right after the stent was removed, I could barely walk, but now it seems everything is back as it should be.

Now my question is this: my uro didn't really tell me anything to do to prevent another stone, except to drink 48 to 86 ounces of water a day. I know that there has to be more to it than that. What are you all doing to prevent another stone? The uro didn't really do any urine composition tests to see which chemical caused the stone.

Personally, I would get him to do a 24 hr.. urine test to see why you are making stones. Litholink will send you all the things you need to do it. They keep track of your medical history with stones ect. They tell you what you stones are made of and now to prevent them. Water is very important Yes but there is alot more you can do. Like I have to watch High foods with oxidate in them. Like greens and some other things. They used to tell you not to have calcium but they have changed that because your body will pull it out of your bones and you get stones anyway that way. If you have the type of stones I have you need to watch you salt. See, my calcium from what I understand is a defect in my kidneys not putting calcuim back in my blood like It would. so it goes out of my body and sitting in the kidneys a long time and that is what forms stones with the oxidate. If you knew what your stones were made of then you could know more what to do. Like some stones are made up of acid from gout some are not. It just despends. Not sure how much you have read about stones. When you have your stone blasted did you doctor say you needed to catch the pieces? Then he would send them off to be checked to see what they are made of . If he is a good doctor he will.If he cares he will see why you are making them too. I am talking like that because in 90 my doctor tried but things have come so far now. Then my second doctor well... we wont go there. He never tried to do anything but the doctor I have now really tries to see why you are making stones. Hope this helps. Oh I am on a water pill. Can't think of the name of it but it lessens the calcium too. Polly
