View Full Version : Acupuncture-experiences

I have been trying acupuncture and have noticed some great benefits, including:

Stress relief, weight loss, lower blood pressure, more energy, sense of well being/confidence.

I am curious what other people (who have tried acupuncture) have experienced?

Thanks,

John

John, Have you looked into accupressure. I hear it does the same thing except it is less invasive. What are your views?

I have been doing acupuncture for about a month now. I find when I go I feel relief of the symptoms he treats me for, however they do come back eventually. What I want to see is the long-term results -- see if my symptoms eventually go away. Based on what I've experience so far, I think they will. I've been happy with it, and have also found I've had a better sense of well-being and confidence. I suppose that would come from anything that makes you feel better physically. http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif

John, what kind of problem caused you to have acupuncture. I used acupuncture for fibromyalgia and had good success however it was short lived, it would only last for about three days at a time. Maylon

For high blood pressure. It did successfully lower by B.P. to normal. My Doc said that the treatments should have a long term affect, although this remains to be seen.

you know I'd really like to try this. I have a bad back and it wouldn't hurt other areas as well. Has anyone tryed sound therapy I had heard it was good. Listened to a tape my friend had and was very surprised at the affect it had on me.

Hi John,
My doc prescribed and performed acupuncture for my neck/ upper spine stress. I have a few injuries and the initial effect was a profound improvement but the improvements faded with time. It did seem to 'rewire my brain' so i didn't stress so much. I only stopped treatment because he moved to the other side of town.
I note the AMA authorizes acupuncture for post operative stress.

I have been having trouble with food allergies, tinnitis and dizziness. I just went Thursday for my first acupuncture treatment. When he asked me to lie down on the table I did but was so dizzy he had to wait for my head to stop spinning before we could proceed. By the time I had my first treatment and sat back up I had no dizziness at all. That has been four days now. However, the tinnitis is still with me. I am hoping that gets better as well.

Acupuncture can be extremely beneficial.
If you have back problems you will be surprized at the benefits. Some doctors use a few needles, while others use 100 or more needles. I find the one's that use a lot of needles to be more beneficial because their treating more of the bodies complaint at a time. The doctor's that use a few needles (10 or less)are only treating one problem at a time, making the cost to you higher.

Acupressure is is not the same thing as Acupuncture. In a sense they are, but not.
Anyone that has ever had a knot removed knows that. Acupuncture is only a little painful within the first ten minutes of treatment, while Acupressure can be painful throughout the treatment. So when you think about it, it's just as invasive as Acupuncture. I hate the needles, but if I'm paying for the treatment, I only go to doctors that treat the whole body at a time.

I've had chonic vertigo for the past 6 months. The traditional doctors I've seen have been unable to help, so I've been thinking about trying acupuncture.

I'm wondering if anyone out there has had experience treating vertigo with alternative medicines?

Also, if anyone knows of a good acupuncturist in the San Francisco area, please let me know...

I have a rare blood disorder and my aunt has suggested accupunture. The thing is I hate (with a paaion) needles. Can any of you tell me what it is like. Do you feel any pain. just the thought of needles no matter how small makes me nervous.

I had food allergies a couple of years ago. After I went through countless tests that came up negative, I went to an Acupuncturist.
In 1 hour he not only told me what was wrong, ut I felt 80% better. After 4 treatments I was "cured".

Look at my message entitled "acunpuncture" under General Board Questions. That pretty much explains it all for me.

Acupuncture tends to work in increments. Usually what happens is that there is some initial improvement but it doesn't last. Each treatment causes the improvement to last longer and eventually your symptoms will go away. You may need to have periodic tune-ups for maintenance.

Hmmm, interesting. All of the responses to this question have been positive for acupunture! I had acupuncture for my migraines, but saw zero improvement after four (expensive!) sessions from a very qualified DC practitioner.

Anyone else have no response to their acupuncture for migraines?

Anyone want to recommend their acupuncturist? I might be willing to give it another try...
