MD wants me to have EUS - endoscopic ultrasound. I have had the EDG with no sedation.(and no problem) Has anyone had an EUS without sedation. Sedation is too risky for me. Please let me know how you did with it. :)

All ultrasound tests that I have had are not invasive -- that are normally done with a probe out side of the body using a lubicating gel. Is this test any different than other ultrasound tests? I don't think it is --- there should be no need for sedation. If it is please let us know. It should be a cake walk in contast to an Endoscopic Exam.

Yes, it is endoscopic. Like an EGD and there is an ultrasound device attached to it. MD said it takes about 20 minutes and they put water in your stomach to inflate it. It is called EUS, endoscopic ultrasound, a relatively new procedure.

I'm just curious why sedation is not safe for you. I have a condition that makes me have a very fast heart rate, and I HATE the thought of sedation! However my doc insisted on it for my endoscopy (I did ok there) and now he's insisting on it for the colonoscopy. I'd rather not even be sedated. Why's it a danger for you?

I almost died from an asthma attack - stopped breathing and needed to be on a ventilator for 2 days (then I was heavily sedated but the machine was breathing for me.) I am afraid of the respiratory depression and respiratory arrest that the versed and demerol have as side effects. I wish I knew someone with asthma as bad as mine who did well with sedation. Thanks
