Hey guys, I'm getting my tonsils out Friday, December 19. I'm 15, and I was just wondering if there are any other teens out there that could share their opinion on how yours went. I've read the adult tonsillectomy boards, and I was wondering if it was as bad, or better? thanks for your time!

Hey Im 18 years old (I actually turned 18 1 week before surgery) The surgery wasn't that bad at all. The worst part actually was everything I worked up in my own head!!! I had to arive early to the hospital so I could change into my gown (your aloud wearing your underware and socks no bra) then I had to give a urine sample to make sure I wasnt pregnant because the anestetics could kill a baby. After that they started an Iv in my mind that was something I worked up to be really bad it wasn't just a moment of pain the worst thing with the IV was I had to wait 2 hrs for my surgery and since I wasnt use to the Iv I had to pee every 1/2 an hour. When it was my turn my dr came down to joke with me one last time then his staff took me to the operating room. When I was in there all I remeber is they will hook you up to a heart monitor to monitor heart rate, pulse, and blood preasure. Also you will be fastened in with a seat bealt. Thats all I remember about the actuall surgery. Next thing I knew I was waking up in recovery. That part was a little ruff they had to give me a shot for the nausea I was feeling, (Thats normal expecially since I had never had anestetics) In Recovery for the first 1/2 an hour or so no one is aloud comming back then they will alow your parents back(at least thats how they did it for me) Before they will let you leave you have to be able to pee once and drink some water with a disolved pain pill. By the way thats the best advice I can give is drink drink drink and it wont hurt as bad. The fourth day is so far the ruffest for me (which is today) but it would be worse if I let my self get dehydrated. When your getting ready to leave the hospital. Don't get yourself up to fast!! I tried to push myself while getting ready to go home and I ended up having to stay in the hospital for an extra hour because I turned white and was lightheaded.
All in all it hasn't been to bad!! Just keep in perspective that this will help!!!!!!

Here is a list of foods that I have been using::
~Jello is good expecially when taking pain pills just slip your pill inside a down it goes!!
~Also pudding isn't bad as long as you drink something with it if you don't then you build mucus up back there!!
~Ice Chips are a blessing they are the best thing you can do for yourself!!!
~Sherbert and popcicles are also good
~ And you must get lots of water and juices and stuff to drink!!!!!!!!!

I know lots of people say ice cream is good but I would stay away it causes a lot of mucus!!! And if you want something warm to eat try broth's I haven't been able to eat anything with bits of chicken in it. Only the broth!! Hope this helps Keep me informed!!!
