My dermatologist has prescribed Retin-A usage as a way to keep my skin young. I really do NOT have any skin problems or major signs of aging. He just is a big proponent of using Retin-A everywhere .... under the eyes, around the eyes, on the forehead, etc...

How safe is REtin-A?

Hi, I have been on Retin-A three times for cystic acne, and it helps me so much. Each time I go off my skin looks great. I even get compliments on how pretty my complexion is. My dr. says it makes your skin prettier as time goes on,and for me it has. I have no acne now and the scars are all most gone. I did ask my dr. about using it under my eyes and she says she doesn't suggest it but I have heard it does help the wrinkles, maybe dr's can't say it so if something happeens they are not to blame. I have heard it does work around the eyes. I used it for a while and it never hurt my eyes. I'm 49 and don't have many wrinkles so maybe we can say it is the Retin-A that has helped huh? I don't know of anyone that was on that ever had any problems, only better compexion. Please let me know how it is helping your skin?

Hi deb,

How long have you been using Retin-A? what brand name? and also when you said that you "go off" means that you stop using it? and then when do you come back again? Do you need to using for certain period of time and then stop and the come back?

Retin A is great, but if you are the sensitive type be in for some real redness, dryness, itchies. I loved what Retin A did for me but the side effects were gross for the first few weeks. Your skin then gets accustomed to it and it does work wonders.

You said your scars are gone now. What kind of scars did you have--icepicks, pocks??

Also, how long did it take for them to go away?

HI, I am sorry about stopping it, got better. What I was talking about was being on Accutane and then started using Retin-A. I guess I was talking to someone about Accutane first, sorry! The Retin-A does dry your skin out bad until your skin gets used to it and I think all the first layer of skin is off then it doesn't seem to peel as bad. They say it helps with wrinkles, I know it has helped me with some scarring I had from pimples but not the deep scars. I also use the Camellia oil now and love that for my moisturizer. I think the oil is the best I have ever used for evening out my skin and always having a nice glow to it. The best thing is the oil does not break me out and is never oily on my face after I rub it in good. I do get alot of compliments on my complexion which means alot to me since I suffered with cystic acne for years. If you never tried the oil, I would highly suggest anyone trying it. Its Silka Camellia Oil, and you get it on e-bay. You can look it up on the healthboards here under beauty and cosmetics.

Deb,

When yur Dr. said it improves skin more in time, what specifically did he mean? In what way?

Also, you said it got rid of non-deep scars--do you mean red marks, or indents?

After being on Accutane , your skin continues to improve. The Retin-A helps clear up scar marks, more breakouts and is suppose to help reduce fine wrinkles. I had really good results from Accutane and so far good on Retin-A. I also use the Camellia Oil which keeps my skin soft and always a glow to it. I don't mean an oil glow, I mean a healthy glow. Right now I am very happy with my complexion since I have fought cysic acne for years. Good Luck to you!
