hey guys ~ I've been reading these boards forever, but never actually posted anything, but here it goes! Anways, I'm currently using Retin-A Micro, and this Friday will be the end of my 6th week. I got many new zits during week 3-4. It calmed down alittle, and now I have alot more. I think i can handle all this if i know that there is going to be a good outcome! So If you guys could write back and maybe tell me some success stories or personal stories i would appreciate it so much! Thanks You Guys

I have tried various prescription acne meds, (topical). Here's my usage timeline:
Benzamicin: 1 1/4 years
Differin: 1 year
Benzaclin: 1 year
Retin-A Micro: 3 Months
Ortho Tri-Cyclin: 2 years
I had the same results from Differin & Retin-A. They both dried out my skin horribly...cracked lip corners and "sunburn" type of peel, with no results. Benzaclin was gentler on my skin, but no real results from that either. Ortho Tri-Cyclin worked great for clearing up the acne on my chest and back, but not on my face. Benzamicin was the best. It took 10 months for my skin to clear up, but after that it was in great shape. I have had pretty bad acne (especially cysts on my lower face) since I was 10, 11 years old and I am 21 now.
I stopped using the topical meds because I don't have insurance anymore, but I still take the Ortho (only about $30 w/o insurance). But this is kinda funny...I picked up this product called "ProAcne" from Sav-on (it is also at Target, Walgreens, etc). It is a knock off of ProActiv, but only $17-29. I have been using it for about two months now, and my skin is starting to clear up really well. The product lasts a long time, so I've saved $$$, and it is really gentle on my skin. I keep the BP Repair Lotion in the fridge, going on the advice of a book called "The Acne Cure" (this is a great book, look it up on Borders.com). I think it is because my skin responds better to BP, but everyone is different. They say that Retin-A Micro should deliver full results in 7 weeks...it didn't for me, so I stopped using. Good luck with your search! I know how hard it is!

Hey Harmony...
I didnt use Retin-A for that long, maybe about a month or so, but I really didnt like the stuff. It make be break out like crazy... not to mention my face was dry, red & REALLY irritated. My face looked better after I quit using it. I'm really not an advocate for Retin-A... I think it does more damage than good. Maybe it works if you stick with it, but most people cant handle what it does to their face within the first few months. There are a few people on here that have had success with it, hopefully they will post. (I know DeeDeeWith3 really likes it.) I only use my left over Retin-A for the occasional zit on my back... I will never put it on my face again!!

Hi.I've been using retin a gel (not micro) 0.05% for nearly 5 months now.My mild/moderate acne has gone.
During the first month I had a terrible breakout worse than I would normally get.
But slowly I started to get fewer spots until last month (month 4) I stopped getting spots altogether regardless of what I ate.
My red and pitted scars are much better.People say my skin glows. The redness has also gone. I still get dry patches though. Incidently people think I'm 10 years younger than I actually am (but that could be genetic).
The gel I use also has erythromycin in it.I'm sure that helps.
I had acne for 13 years.I can't believe that a simple gel has cleared it up.
I hope my skin continues to tolerate it.
Good luck.Perhaps you've found your remedy? I hope so.

Hi Harmony, I have used every acne treatment known to man, including Accutane (which worked but now I'm getting them again, just not as severe). I have used regular retin-a in the past and am now using retin-a micro. I would suggest sticking it out with the retin-a micro. I have only been using mine for about a month but I have used regular retin-a in the past and it worked really well for me. It is true, the side effects are annoying, but once you get past the hump it is so worth it! I found that it took a couple of months for the side effects to go away with the retin-a and I'm not sure how long the micro will take but the side effects are less severe (supposedly). My skin looked really smooth and fresh (like after a chemical peel). Initially I had some breakouts but my aesthetician said it was because all of the blackheads were being brought to the surface. Hope this helps. I would stick it out if I were you:) It's better than long term antibiotics (which can cause chronic yeast infections)!

Hey Harmony... I'm using retin a micro right now. I started in July.. so that makes it two months ago. And I'm really seeing results. When I had first started using it I had really bad breakouts, my skin was peeling, and it was just really bad I didn't want to go out anywhere. But I didn't give up and kept using it. Now, my skin is soft, i only break out a little (if I don't touch them) and the scars are healing up fast. I use brevoxy wash in the morning, I also got minocycln pills, and then wash with neutrogena soap then put on my retin a micro gel at night. I don't know if I explained that so well. Anyways, keep trying it for a couple more weeks and if it doesn't work then try something else.

I have been using Retin-A-Micro for exactly 1 week now and I can see a definite improvement. True, it did make my face peel like crazy. My face is still peeling, but not as much. But it makes your face really smooth and soft. And the zits I do get, providing I don't pop them, go away really quick. I am also using Duac Gel in the mornings and using Plexion cloths to wash with. So we shall see. I really don't see how the Retin-A-Micro is going to help with the red marks. That's what I'm most concerned about. But who knows.

I used retin-a-micro for about three months i quit using it because it dried my skin out after awhile it began to completely clear me up and then all of a sudden like it all occured over night my face was covered in zits. another thing i have learned about retin-a-micro is that it takes about a whole year to see the most results and then you must continue the product to keep clear.

Hello, I have been using retin-a micro .1% for about 6 to 7 weeks, I can't really remember but I know I started using it around the last week or 2nd to last week of July. The first week I didn't really experience anything, but after that I started getting only mostly whiteheads that have left scars! Uhh... but I know thats the unclogging process. Anyway, I do have to say my skin is definitly getting better. I still get a white head here and there but I can see an improvement. I got frustrated a few weeks ago but everyone should stick through it. The bottle says results you will see results at 2 weeks but everyone shouldnt believe that. You will see good results at 7 weeks and FULL benefits at 12 weeks, so dont quit after a few weeks, do the 12!Hi
