After about 2 months of dealing with kidney stones, 2 which passed and because of that, the major pain associated with the stones went away, making me think, I was recovering and everything was going back to normal. However, a CAT scan showed, there is still one stone in my bladder or urethra that is still there and just sitting there, which isn't causing me any pain.

Only thing i feel, sometimes i feel sore, not pain, just sore, like a cut that gets a scab pulled off it type of sore pain. I just take a pain med and my day is fine. I just assumed either, i was healing but healing slowly or i had an infection.

But today, he told me, since the CAT scan is showing there is a stone still there, that i need to have Cysto surgery in 3 weeks. I'm not so much scaried of the surgery, but being knocked out. he said, i will be completely asleep during this whole thing.

He said, it will last about 90 minutes, but i'm not sure if that is 90 minutes for the surgery and the placing of the stent, or if that's 90 minutes including recovery time.

i've never had surgery, never been to a hospital other than to visit people and after having both of my parents die while at hospitals, i'm nervous and scared as heck. my doctor said, it's still very possible that the stone could pass on it's own, he said, people have called him telling him the day of surgery that they passed the stone. I am hoping this is the case with me.

I admit, i've lightened up on the water, since i assumed my stones were gone, since the pain was gone, but now, i'm going to go back to drinking about a gallon of water a day in hopes, the stone leaves me.

If anyone has had the Cysto surgery, how bad is it? do you feel pain afterwards? If you had the stent put in, how long was in for and did you feel pain while it was in? my doctor said, it is possible i will feel bad with it in, but that it should only be in for a few days. he said, a string will come out of me, from my bladder and taped to my leg. he said, when it's pulled out, i won't feel anything. i hope he's right.

anyways, i wanted to just talk, cause i'm scared. i'm 29 years old and my birthday is in january. the same month as my surgery is the same month i turn 30.

thanks for listening and thanks for any advice or good thoughts you have.

Charlene,

I had procedure done about 3 months ago and it really was not that big a deal for me. Ended up in hospital one evening about a week before I was scheduled for surgury because pain had me curled up like a little baby. Had surgury about noon the next day, was out of surgury in an hour. Was originally suppose to go home latter that day, but because of extremely low pulse (not related to surgury), they kept me until the next morning. The stent was slightly uncomfortable while in, and my urine looked like Fruit Punch for one week until stent was removed. To remove the type of stent I had required a scope to be inserted into the bladder to retrive it. This was done at urologists office with very minimal discomfort. All in all I would say I would much rather have this procedure done than to try living with the stone.
Hopefully this answers your questions, if not I would be happy to respond to those I left.
Good luck, and let us know how it goes.
