It would be great if someone who had my same symptoms & was diagnosed with something OR someone who got rid of these symptoms would respond.

I have had a burbling or bubbly feeling beneath my ribcage, sort-of towards the left for nearly 6 weeks. It acts up whenever I am relaxing---when I sit down to read or try to nap or go to bed at night or as I come awake in the morning. When I'm up & doing things, I barely notice it. I modified my diet & have been on "natural" antiacids, aloe capsules, magnesium, digestive enzymes, etc. but nothing seems to really help much. I had this back in July for 6-8 weeks, then it vanished completely for 10 weeks. In tandem with these symptoms, I also am very gassy & feel like I have suppressed burps are in there. (I get some relief by burping & /or passing gas). I'll see a gastroenterologist in mid-January.
Any ideas what this is?
Thanks very much!

Hi Maggie. I too have had a burbly/bubbly feeling underneath my ribs as well. Although I have had it for about 2 or 3 years. I seemed to have develped it after the birth of my daughter. I don't know if that could be related or not having everything "pushed up" so to speak. It doesn't hurt, it's just mostly irritating. I find it acts up when I am relaxing too.. laying on my stomach at bedtime, or in the morning, sometimes when I sit a certain way. Mostly lying or sitting, not standing. I mentioned this to my doctor and she suggested it might be that my diaphragm is sitting on my large intestine.. I have had all sorts of tests and everything is fine. I just recently had my gallbladder out but I still have the same burbling.. I get bad gas too and alot of belching.. I don't know what else it could possibly be. I posted on here about that subject about 8 months ago but no one ever responded. I am glad to find someone that has the same thing. Well, it's not fun , but it's nice to know that we can relate to each other. I see a gastroenterologist in February for the severe stomach aches I have been waking up with and I will ask about the burbling as well. I don't know what else to suggest... but if you find anything out, let me know and I will do the same. Take care. :)

Thanks for responding! Yes--maybe we can ask our doctors & put our heads together to see what this is! I'm going to try Zantac over-the-counter to see if it helps---my general practitioner thinks its a combo of stress & GERD, though I don't burp up acidy fluid.

Take care!
Hugs,
Maggie C.

Maggie,
I think I have the same thing. I always feel like I have trapped gas. I don’t belch like I would like to, but when I do manage to belch I get temporary relief. I don’t have any heartburn. It is always worse when I lay down, especially in the afternoon when I want to nap, and that is usually after lunch. I have tried everything you have mentioned and I did go to a gastroenterologist. He told me I have gas. LOL! Anyway he suggested a product called CharcoCaps, which is OTC. He also told me not to use Benefiber, because it is known to cause gas. I tired his suggestionsand I have reduced some of the gas, but I still have that queasy, gas filled, full feeling. I did eliminate all artificial sugars and that seemed to help for a while, but I am back to the gas. I do find that I can get some relief by pressing repeatedly on the stomach area which in turn releases some of the gas through belching. Please post the outcome of your MD visit.

Hi! I have this problem too. Can I ask you both a question? Do any of your belches sometimes seem like fake ones? Just a noise with not much relief? Sometimes making the full, bloated queasy feeling worse? This is what happens to me. Worse in the evenings after eating or trying to eat all day. Then I lay down to go to bed and everything rumbles and burbles etc. which I assume is the gas moving on down. By morning, my colon is doing the rumbling and cramping and I start passing it the other way! They usually smell bad too. I have been told I have gastritis, gerd and ibs. Do either of you have symptoms like this? Mine too got much worse after having my kids and usualy coincide with my period. Please respond. Thanks.

I get "fake" burps, yes. Not very satisfying, are they?! I'm on the Pill, so don't have "real" periods, so don't have any relevant info on that aspect.

I'll let posters here know what my gastro-guy says after my Jan. 15 appointment.

hugs,
Maggie

maggie...

It would be great to know what another gastro says. Mine just keeps saying it's anxiety and depression. Not so.

Hi. Yes I know what you mean about the fake belches. I have them too and makes it worse. The burbly feeling I have is always there. Only when I lay or sit. It doesn't feel like gas since it is when I breathe in only. That's why my doctor thinks it is my diaphragm laying on my intestines. It is so irritating! I do have alot of gas as well but alot more since my gallbladder surgery 8 weeks ago. I developed that burbly feeling after my daughter was born. My doctor thinks I now have gastritis or an ulcer. The gas gets worse when I have my period now but it never used to bother me before. I am going to try digestive enzymes for now. That burbly feeling .. I don't know if anything can be done about it. Unless they move my organs around I suppose :)

IBS!! check out that board for more information. Before I got the diagnosis, i would describe my pain as stomache aches and bubbly gurgling feelings, gassy, bloated, etc. I had my hubby listen to my belly one day it was gurgling so bad. I too would mostly experience this at night or upon sleeping.

HOpefully it is not something more serious, so definetly get some things ruled out. But you all have the classic symptoms of this disorder with no known causes(other then stress anxiety.)

I have come to discover i am bubbly and gurgly when everything is moving to fast through my system. Here are some things I do. . .

Eat something with protein, such as chicken.

Dont take antacids. Try Gas-X (simethicone)

supplements are fine, but make sure your eating enough bulk foods and protein. Don't let yourself get hungry, keep food in your system, all that empty belly seems to cause gassiness. Too much fiber foods during these symptoms as well as dairy can make it worse.

heating pad

anti anxiety medication such as lorazapam, or something similar to use in an emergency attack, it calms the whole system and stops those contractions of the intenstines.

Immodium AD. (don't take if your constipated)

good luck and definetly check out info on IBS>

Also, my mom in her 50s had these symptoms and got some testing and they said she has a wheat sensitivity.

Thanks for the info! I *do* feel better when I've just eaten. I have been wondering about a wheat connection--I'll leave it out a few days & see. Maybe it's *not* GERD!

Maggie

I have had something like this for a few years. I think I can trace it back to a certain food I ate in a restaurant and/or a stomach bug I had about two years ago. The doctor suggested some kind of bacteria, and then the next time she was no longer on that track. I have a very noisy stomach and bubbles bursting and it is much worse when I am sitting still. Sometimes I feel like the bubbles are going to take me off the couch and drop me on the ground.
I do have GERD and I have shown some antibodies to wheat. Celiac runs in the family but so far I have tested negatiuve on all the blood tests except a small amount on the wheat antibodies. I sure would like to know what in the world this is.

I have something similar, with light colored stools....beginning to think it is Celiac disease or maybe H-Pylori bacteria in the small intestine. I think it takes an endoscopy or blood test, and sometimes a breath test to diagnose these bacteria.

I had the H Pylori test, it's an easy blood test. Was negative on that one. Celiac also has blood tests (especially if you dont want a tube down the throat) which are good indicators. Mine were negative except for a minor wheat antibody problem. I have to have the tests done frequently though, due to Celiac running in my family.
I hope I dont have it, but it could easily happen.
I was doing really well lately btw, but Christmas food seems to have set me off (nuts, corn, and things hard on the old tummy.)
