I've read a bunch of posts on here and would like a bit of input. I am 43 yrs old and recently diagnosed with Diabetes, high cholesterol and high blood pressure. I had a heart attach at some point, I did not feel anything. I went to the Dr in the first place because my heart would race, chest tight and hard to breath. They put me on Lexapro and Zanex. A week later I went back because it was getting more frequent. On that visit, it just so happened that I was haveing an episode, my pulse was 112 and I couldn't breathe enough to talk. They did an EKG and found the heart attack. After a whole battery of test they found all the stuff listed above. I am now on a whole mess of medication, Diabetes, cholesterol, Blood Pressure as well as the Lexapro, Xanex and now another Anti Depressant and sedative. I now am awakened in middle of nite with racing heart and short of breathe. My chest doesn't hurt, it's just tight, like I might be getting a cold.
It just seems to me that my Dr keeps adding more medications to bandage the problem, but is not looking enough for the cause. I want to go to a Cardiologist, but need a referral and my Dr is dragging her feet about it. I'm at the point now where I have demanded a referral and if she won't give it to me, I want it documented in my chart and then I want my records to go elsewhere. My mothers family, parents and 7 siblings have all died of heart problems very young, so obviously I am worried about it.
Am I all wet?

Have you ever stayed up late and not gone to bed, and still got the racing heart and shortness of breath? Does it happen every night? Do you sleep with the windows open?

Also, does someone in your home smoke or wear perfumes or colognes?

Do you drink coffee, or tea? Do you eat chocolate. Do you snack after 7pm?

Do you have any pets?

The reasons I am asking is that I also have heart rhythm problems, and I have found a lot of things that can cause my heart to race, jump, bump, thump, skip, etc. Some heart irritants, like the level of pollutants or pollens in the air, I can only avoid by not going outside, and by not opening the windows of my home.

Regards, and I hope that you are feeling well right now! :)

Another thing that will cause the heart to race and beat like it's coming out of your chest is alcohol.
