Hi.
I had a tonsillectomy over 2 months ago. I am 28. It wasn't the most pleasant experience but I made it through. However, I still don't feel 100%. Can anyone explain these lingering, annoying things I am dealing with:
-very dry tounge (in the back), despite "all day" water-drinking
-feeling of something lodged in my throat constantly
-throat looks and feels more narrow than normal, some words are hard to say now
-very bad taste in my mouth all the time, constantly doing peroxide gargles
-taste buds not working properly, thus nothing tastes the same as before my surgery, very bland
PLEASE HELP!

Hi, how long did it take you to recover overall? How much weight did you lose? How was your pain level during your recovery?
I have the numbness in the back of my tongue and it feels very swollen. Have the same horrible taste in my mouth all the time, even though I can only brush the front of my teeth. And it feels like something is lodged in my throat too. Had the surgery on Monday, so I am really only on Day 2 of post-op. Hope it gets better, today has sucked as far as pain goes. I am about to attempt to eat some jello pudding. Just had a few sips of gatorade earlier and that hurt!

I went back to work after two weeks. Like I said, I still don't feel 100%. I lost about 10 pounds. Pain was not a problem because I kept on top of my pain meds and drank and ate "real foods". I know it hurts, but I believe that eating your regular diet will help you recover faster. Not steak, just really soft, home-made foods like eggs, oatmeal, grits, rice w/gravy, mac-n-cheese, small bites of baked chicken, etc...
Hope you get better soon~

I had my tonsils out 3 1/2 years ago at the age of 34. I took 2 weeks off from work. Took me a couple months before I didn't feel so tired. Otherwise, the pain was pretty much totally gone after a month. I didn't drink soda for several months. Bubbles hurt too much right after surgery. Hot coffee took awhile, too. Really warm stuff hurt. Things just tasted different for awhile. So I'd crave a greasy burger or piece of pizza and it'd be SUCH a disappointment. Just tasted off.
