I would say beyond bra strap you may be best off with foils.
Caps are easy for at home use. Try baby powdering the inside of the cap before use. When you go to take it off, apply TONS of shampoo and gently work it off.

It can be done with a long length of hair about shoulder blade length, depending on the density of the hair.

A few suggestions:

~ Make sure the hair is PERFECTLY DRY
~ Make sure that you start at the very top to the back of the crown, then the sides, then the rest of the back.
~ Put the hook straight in or a slight angle and pull it out without twisting in a circle to catch the hair. You can do this procedure straight in or sloghtly angled/straight out a few times in each hole to get the desired amount.
