I'm schedule for lithotripsy in 4 days and they said that it's mandatory that they put me out. It's my first time being put under like that and i'm a bit nervous. I'm also a bit nervous about them possibly putting a stent in after.
Wow what a nice surprise that would be huh > your out cold, wake up with a sten in? If any of you have had lithotripsy or commonly called ESWL please post your experiences and stories bad or good. Thanks in advance i'll post mine here, after it's over and done with for other people. :)

Hi, I had a stone in 90 and had a stent put in. He tried to go in and get the stone and couldnt. I was put asleep that time. When they did lithotripsy I was wide awake.. for that. You sat in a chair.
I had another lithotripsy done in Ohio. Alot different in 2000 and it was a newer kind. I was on a table and a big litho machine. No water under this time. They did put me to sleep this time. Saying any movement would not be good. This was at Cleveland Clinic.
My kidney doctor then was not a very good one where I live and he wouldn't do a lithotripsy here so that is why I went there.
So in 2002 I had another stone and I found a new urologist here and he is really good. He did put a stent in one day and put me out and then he did lithotripsy I think a week later or two weeks later and they made me relax and lay on my stomach on a newer type table but they didn't put me to sleep that time . Hope that helps. Polly

Thank you i appreciate your post and the information. Thanks for sharing it with me. After suffering for two months with this, the stone attacks, the moving stones and now the st1.5 centimeter stuck one....i'm actually looking forward to the lithotripsy, it can't be as bad as what i've been through the last few months and the waiting for paperwork and the stress.
Hope you don't get anymore stones polly....

Hi, You are welcome. I know what you mean. Acutally the lithotripsy isnt that bad or it wasn't for me. This last stent was the worst and they don't all feel like that I know. I did have an xray back in Oct and I do have a very small stone but it is not moving and the doctor said as long as it stays in the kidney it shouldn't bother me and if it does it is small enough to pass.
My last one I couldn't pass. When I went to Cleveland it was so funny cuz the doctor here told me I didnt have one and I knew I did. Well , I had three. LOL
I passed one right before I went in to the doctor there the night before. He broke up the other two. I thought that was so funny and he did too. The doctor here that was treating me at the time retired. Thank the Lord for that. I think he needed too. Have you had anyone check to see why you are making stones. If your uro doctor does. Have him use Litholink. http://www.litholink.com/
They determine what your stones are made of. Then they help the doctor keep records of everything. My stones are calcuim mostly so I am on diutritc now
to control that and it has cut my calcuim levels in half. So that is good.
Hope you don't get any stones either. Best luck and Merry Christmas.

or all others who will have to go through with it and have it done i had a combination lithotripsy/cystoscopy.
they found one stone stuck in the bladder and the first part of the treatment was an IV with antibioticsand electrolyte solution whie i waited for my my turn.
I was put out with general anesthetic and was out within seconds. they went in through my penis and zapped the one stone with a lazer and put a stent in. Second i was put in a lithotripsy tank with water and they zapped the 1.5 centimeter stone with that. I dont remember any of it or feeling a thing cause i was out, i woke up in hte recovery room later with a major stinging pain and some brusing around the kidney area.
It's painful and stingy and i feel really sore and tired. my mouth is really dry and my throat hurt from the gas they used to knock me out and i've got to wear a stent for a week, but they assured me i could go back to normal activities after 24 hours. I'm gonna be drinking an extreme amount of water and hope i never havve to go through it again.
so there you have my true stone story and i'm sticking to it.
