AD's do make people tired. That is a very common side effect from the medication.

Actually, many medications, a common side effect is becomming drowsy.

What meds exactly? SSRIs like Prozac, Zoloft or Paxil are commonly known for lethargy, but newer antidepressants that manipulate dopamine/norepinephrine activity such as Wellbutrin and Effexor can actually cause "speediness" similar to stimulant action...

My suggestion is to start exercising regularly, at least 30 minutes of aerobic, 3 or 4 times a week. Helps with anxiety, too.

Well, I've experienced both from different AD's. I have to say, I'd rather be sleep than super hyper like the effexor xr made me. I felt like I was going to jump out of my skin!!

I agree with what everyone else has said. It depends on the ad. I'm taking celexa and it makes me very tired, but at the same time I am taking wellbutrin which is counteracting the drowsy affects. It's something to think about. Taking two different acting ad's at the same time. Good luck. Hope this helps.

I have been on antidepressants since June. They have helped improve my mood a lot but they did make me tired at first. I was on zoloft and it eventually went away. But I just switched to paxil because of the cost factor and now i am really tired. Hopefully these side effects will fade too. Good Luck

Were you just as tired on Zoloft as you are on Paxil? Paxil workes great mentally for me but I'm too tired to do anything. I have not tried Zoloft yet.
Thinking about going on it but not sure if it will cure depression as well as Paxil, but if I won't be nearly as tired, it may be worth it.

I tired Wellbutrin and it DID give me energy but I was more depressed and anxious than without any meds at all.

At first I was tired on zoloft but that eventually went away. Zoloft, Paxil and Prozac are all in the same class, they are SSRI's. Which doesn't necessarily mean that they will all work the same. I am definitely more tired on Paxil but I'm going to see if that goes away. Hopefully it will. Since I have an insurance limit on how much I can spend per year I switched since paxil has a generic and zoloft doesn't. Good luck.
