I'm getting so frustrated. I have MVP and occasional hyperthyroid. In the past, if my rate was up, I always knew it was my throid overacting again.
Well, it's been up along w/breathlessness and my thyroid is normal. Today, I had bloodwork done (after fasting for 15 hours), then had an echo done. I have been taking Lanoxin for my rate, but don't take it until 11:00. My tests were at 10:00. Anyway,my rate was at 69 during echo. (Of course it was.....it NEVER acts up when I'm at the doc!). AFter the appt, I ate a small pecan pie and went shopping. About 30 min later, I;m just walking around and I can feel my rate up. (I didn't check it because of people around but w/my experience I would say it was about 126 beats per min. It wouldn't stop, so I quickly paid and went to my truck. (Took my meds. 1/2 of a .25 tablet).
My question: Has anyone noticed this after eating? I'm assuming it was from eating that sugar after fasting?? Usually, my rate goes up if I'm lightly exerting myself, like small stairs etc. I won't get echo results till next week. But I am YEARNING to hear from anyone that is having the rapid rate and breathlessness. Sorry this was so long. Modmomm

I have been getting rapid heart rate lately also. It seems to happen more after I eat. I am now in the process of lowering my medications because I would eventually like to get off them completely. Now I don't know if that is going to be possible since I am having this symptom again. It is very scary and I also have anxeity disorder so that does not help.

Ladybug,
What is your heart condition and what does your rate get to?

I have cardiomyopathy. My heart rate can go up to 140 and higher at times. I find myself checking my pulse numerous times a day. Sometimes when it's up I can feel it with out checking my pulse and it sets off my panic which makes it worse. At those times I think it is like 200!! It's horrible. I have to go back to the cardiologist next month to have a muga scan done. He will probaly want me to up the medicine to where I was at. It really sucks. I don't understand why my heart rate goes up so high after eating and then doing minimal activity (like walking up the stairs or waking to another room). Will see next month what the verdict is on my medication after the test.

What meds have you been on? I'll have to read up on cardiomyopathy. 'Cause my rate goes up exactly like you. After eating and stairs....(like exertion). How about getting up in the morn' like taking a shower? I do know that anxiety makes everything worse. I try not to think about it (easier said than done when your hearts about to jump out of your chest). Let's keep chatting, maybe we can give info to each other from our doc visits!

I am taking Coreg and Altace. Did you have an EKG done?? My EKG's are always abnormal. I see you are waiting for results of an echo. That will show what your ejection fraction is. Mine was 45% when thay did my first echo then with the help of these meds in 5 months it was up to 63% now I am just praying it still is at 63%. I will find out in January.
Yes, let's keep in touch. Let me know how your echo is. I hope everything turns out OK.
Talk to you later. :)
