I've had problems with my stomach for approx. 6 months now. I have nausea prior to bowel movements or after bowel movements. I have also had some dark stools recently (twice in the past two months). I've also had some dizziness after BM. My BM are usually hard and dry and I have periods of constipation. I'm also on prevacid for reflux.

I do have an appointment with a GI Doc in January. Any ideas what this might be? I'm thinking that I might have an ulcer, IBS, or that it could possibly be related to stress as I have a stressful job.

Also, my stomach is noisy. It rumbles and growls quite frequently. I've also noticed that caffiene products upset my stomach.

BTW, I'm a 32 year old male.

When you say dark stools, what do you mean? Black, and tarry? Sorry for the graphic nature of my next comment, but were they very sticky? If that's the case, you very well might have an ulcer, and the black, tarry stool can denote the fact that it's bleeding.

Have you taken any NSAIDs in the recent past? This includes drugs like aspirin, ibuprofen, naproxen...and less serious, but still possible celebrex and vioxx.

IBS, or irritable bowel syndrome is less likely if there actually was blood in the stool. IBD, however (inflammatory bowel disease) might be a possibility, though usually that results in bloody diarrhea, as opposed to firm stools. Have you lost any weight in the recent past?

Yes, they were loose and I guess you could call them sticky. I haven't taken any of the drugs that you described, with the exception of an occassional ibuprofen for headache or something. I have dropped about five or six pounds over the past few months. No diarrhea though.
