My 14 year old daughter has been sick so much in her life, it is really odd. She is forever catching colds, which always lead to ear infections, which lead to fever.... you get the picture. Looking back, she started having these problems as a baby. It seems her nose ran for the first year of her life. I have never had her tested for allergies, I guess I always thought she would eventually outgrow this problem. I have kept a log of how often she is sick, and since school began, she has been on antibiotics 4 times. I have been doing a little research on the internet about immune system deficencies and would like a little input. She does have allergies in the springtime when things are beginning to bloom, but doesn't seem to have problems the rest of the year. Her sicknesses have begun to have an impact on her life. She will avoid crowds, not go out with friends, etc. for fear of getting sick. Please help with any info you have. I have gotten an online referrel for an allergist, and while she is well (for the moment) I am seriously considering taking her in to be checked. Our family dr. has never really mentioned the allergy aspect of it. I am just grasping at straws here! HElP!

I would suggest taking her to an allergist - we finally took my daughter when she was almost 10-because she had an asthma attack - never even knew she had asthma, anyway-as they tested her for allergies she was allergic to about everything!!! environmentally she is now on zyrtec, rhinocort, uses an inhaler, singulair. and it has been like miracle meds. she hasn't been sick maybe 2 times since and not very severe. This kid of mine from the time she was born sick constantly, cold after cold after cold. Then when school age hit, always getting a call from school she was sick!!! Headache, stomach ache, tired just always sick. If she wouldn't have had an asthma attack I don't know if I would have ever thought allergies - her doctor never said anything about allergies to me....

it could be the air in the school....has it ever been tested for mold or other air pollutants?

There are some herbal routes that may work but you need to research it to see if it's right for your daughter. My son had what was called illness induced asthma, meaning that if someone sneezed in his direction or coughed he would catch it and it would promptly move into his lungs. He always seemed to be sick.
Finally we found some herbs and once we got the illnesses under control, his lungs began to heal and we've gone from over 30 doc visits a year to maybe 1 in a year and a half!!
I have used olive leaf and oil of oregano (in the pill form) as well as echinacea. When someone around him is sick I go from 1 a day of the first 2, to 2 a day of the first 2 and only add the echinacea if he becomes ill. He is no longer missing school and what we save on the pediatritian will pay for college!!
Seriously, it could be a number of things and if it's auto-immune you should avoid herbs like echinacea because you don't want to trigger an immune response. The first two don't trigger the immune system, but kill bad bacteria, viruses and even microbes. But research it, as you should any med, regardless of its origin. Good luck.

Hey All!
I have recently taken my daughter to the allergist, and she is allergic to ALOT of things! We have started Allegra and Rhinocort, and now we are waiting on all of the bloodwork to come back so that they can determine if there is anything wrong with her immunities. The doctor seemed to think that this is all alllergy related. I am so hopeful now, maybe this was the answer!!! Thanks for all of your input!
