There are, but as I recall, they are disgusting tasting teas. The names of the particular herbs escape me right now. I'll have to dig out my herb books when I get home and look them up. As I recall, I was able to obtain them at my local health food store that sold exotic bulk herbs. I'm not sure that they really worked.

HealthNutt,

The poster was asking about HOMEOPATHIC remedies for parasites, not HERBAL remedies. There is a difference between the two and drinking foul tasting herbal tea is definitely not homeopathic. You can take remedies in tincture form, but they do not taste of anything in particular, except maybe the alcohol preservative. Herbs on their own have not been potentised and you are taking the crude substance, where as all homepathic remedies have been potentised. If a substance is not potentised, then it is not homeopathic.

In answer to the original poster, yes, there is a specific homepathic remedy for parasites, but I have forgotten the name. Other than that, you need to take a remedy that matches the symptoms that you are having with the parasite infection.

If you have stomach pains, diarrhea, fever possibly and an itching anus, then you need a remedy that matches this picture. It all depends on the symptoms that you have as to which remedy you would need.

I would suggest that you either go and see a homeopath or an ND that practices homeopathy and they will be able to help you by taking your case properly. A good constitutional remedy in addition to an acute remedy in a low potency to help target your stomach and bowels, if they are causing you problems may work very well.

Good luck

I live too many miles from the nearest ND, and I'm not certain that I have parasites. I was diagnosed with IBS, but have been reading a lot about that being misdiagnosed. This sounds disgusting, but I saw what looked like a worm in my stool. I have used the Homeopathic remedies before and find them gentle and effective. Super Sarah if you can find the remedy for parasites, I would appreciate it. I read where you are studying Homeopathy and wish I had the time to do the same. I find it very interesting and I know that some of it works. Maybe some day I will find time to learn more about it.

I don't have fever, and I go from diarrhea to constipation, and very restless nights. I always wake up in the middle of the night needing to have a bowel movement. I don't have much pain, but have a lot of gas.

Thanks for the replies.

I will try and find out the specific remedy for parasites, but in the meantime, can you get hold of any Sulphur? Sulphur seems to cover all the symptoms you are complaining of and especially the urgency to pass stools at night, as well as the diarrhea alternating with constipation, gas and restless sleep. You should be able to get some from a health food store and if you can get it in a 6 or a 30c and take it three times daily for about three days to see whether there is any improvement.

A lot of your symptoms can be attributed to IBS however, but if you feel that you may have parasites, then certainly, the Sulphur is worth a try.

I don't know whether you are taking anything for your IBS, but if not, Metamucil is a water soluble fiber supplement and is good for diarrhea/constipation. Take it twice daily with about 6 to 8 glasses of water. Also, eating live yogurt or taking Acidophilus caps is good for rebalancing your good gut bacteria and will help with gas and diarrhea/constipation also. Keep in the fridge and take twice daily on an empty stomach. You should start to notice the difference in about a week or so.

I'll try and find the specific remedy, but in the meantime try the Sulphur and see.

Good luck

Thank you Super Sarah. I am taking Probiotica and sometimes the Metamucil, but found that Cheerios seem to help more than the Metamucil. I know that sounds strange, but it helps me. Would MSM be a good source of sulfur? I have some here, but I quit taking it because it made me sick to my stomach. Are you referring to a homeopathic sulfur? That would probably be easier to take.

Yes, you need to go to a health food store and buy some homeopathic Sulphur in a 6 or 30c. Taking crude sulphur like that will give you a bad stomach and if you think of what sulphur does, then that is not surprising.

If you can get some from the healthfood store then all the good and take three a day for three days to see if your symptoms improve.

Good luck.

Thank you Super Sarah. I will try to find some the next time I go shopping. Is that how it is spelled; (Sulphur)? Is it the same as Sulfur, only Homeopathic?

Hi,

Yes, it is spelt Sulphur and is exactly the same as ordinary Sulphur. It is only that you are buying it in homeopathic potency, that is the only difference.

Homeopathic remedies are potentised from plant, animal, vegetable and mineral sources, so they are exactly the same. An example of a plant remedy would be Pulsatilla, which is a flower that grows in the garden. A vegetable kingdom remedy would be Lycopodium, which is club moss. An animal remedy would be Apis, which is made from bee venom or Lachesis, which is made from the venom of the bushmaster snake and a mineral kingdom remedy would be Silica.

Remedies also come from other sources such as nosodes, which are potentised disease products, but the above are the main classifications.

Hope this helps and good luck?

Super Sarah,

Don't homeopathy and herbal therapy have some things in common? I don't think I know nearly as much as you do about this type of treatment, but don't some homeopathic remedies use herbs? For example, didn't the father of homeopathy, Samuel Hahnemann, use cinchona bark (a herb) for the treatment of malaria?

You are right to point out the difference. Unfortunately some people label them together when referring to alternative medicines. I have much more knowledge about herbs, myself, than homeopathy. Herbal treatment was so successful for me in the past, that I never ventured into that direction of homeopathy. Could you explain more about what you mean about "potentised". Thanks.

HealthNutt,

If you have some herbal remedies that you would like to share with us, please do. If your herbal remedies would help someone, even though they might not be considered officially "homeopathic" treatment, I think that could be beneficial.

By the way, I like your name "HealthNutt". I think a lot of us are a little health-nutty at times. :)

Yes, homeopathy uses lots of herbal preparations and yes, Hahnemann also used Peruvian Bark in the cure of Malaria. However, he found that the lower the dose the more effective the remedy and he also found that given in crude doses, as well as curing, the substances also produced an aggravation that did not happen when the substance was more dilute.

Basically, herbal remedies and preparations are normally given in tincture form or as herbal teas, but that is in a crude form and they have a pharmacological effect on the body and one must be careful, as some herbs are poisonous. However, any substance can be used homeopathically as I pointed out earlier, but it is not homepathic unless it has been potentised.

Potentisation of a substance is what is known as serial dilution and succussion, so a substance is taken and triturated down to become soluble and is then diluted down in test tubes in a mixture of water and alcohol. It is diluted down to a point where no actual molecules of the substance can be found. The remedy is also succussed, which means hitting it or shaking it to release the energy from it. This is what Hahnemann found too, that when he succussed his remedies they became more effective as more energy was being released.

So basically, serial dilution and succussion equal potentisation and without potentisation as remedy is not homeopathic.

There are different scales of potentisation too with X being decimal, C being centesimal, by 100 and M being a million. There are other potencies in a CM, but these are not widely used and LM, which is a 1 in 50,000 dilution. This is used a lot more and is a liquid potency that is very powerful but also extremely gentle and is not likely to aggravate at all.

As a rough guide an X potency contains molecules and would be used as what is called an Organ Support remedy that may be given intercurrently with a constitutional treatment. This supports that particular organ function or it can be used for organ drainage. A C potency contains molecules up to a 12c and would be used when targetting a specific physical complaint. The higher potencies such as 200c, 1M and 10M are working on a mental/emotional plane and are having an energetic effect rather than a physical effect.

As you said, a lot of people lump herbs and homeopathy together thinking they are the same thing, when they are not and as I said before, homeopathic remedies come from the same herbs, but they are not homeopathic unless they have been potentised.

Everyone is different and responds to different things in different ways. I know my body seems to respond very well to energetic correction and I have had acupuncture treatment with great effect in the past and homeopathic remedies work extremely well for me too. I have not had the same thing with herbs though, which is why I use homeopathy.

Anyway, everyone has to do what works for them in the long run.

Anyway, hope this helps and post back with further questions if you want to. I am quite happy to answer them to the best of my ability.

I'm doing a little better. I'm giving the homeopathic Sulphur a try, but I am staying a little nauseous. I still have better luck with Cheerios than I do Metamucil, but I use both. I can only eat so many Cheerios!! I like the Metamucil wafers.

Glad to hear it. The Sulphur should really help any stomach pains that you have and also any diarrhea. Possibly not nausea though.
